About this role

About Freedom Motors USA
Founded in 1987, Freedom Motors USA is a family-owned manufacturer and retailer of wheelchair-accessible vehicles, headquartered in Battle Creek, Michigan. We provide customized mobility solutions that promote independence and freedom.
♿️ Redefining Mobility Since 1987 — Innovating solutions that open doors to greater freedom and more independence.
🚗 Industry-Leading Accessibility — Building the widest range of wheelchair accessible vehicles and changing lives.
📍 Family-Owned, Nationwide Reach — Proudly delivering to driveways across the country from our headquarters in Battle Creek, Michigan.

We’re hiring a Homologation Engineer to make sure every vehicle we build is certified and compliant before it reaches a customer. You’ll interpret the regulations that apply to our conversions and help engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams put them into practice. Because lowering a floor or adding a ramp can affect structure, fuel systems, chassis dynamics, and driver-assistance systems, you’ll gain exposure to a wide range of engineering disciplines. You’ll start by supporting compliance testing, move on to running in-house tests, and eventually own specific technical areas.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Research, interpret, and communicate regulatory requirements to design, manufacturing, and quality teams.
• Maintain certification records, compliance reports, and regulatory submissions for each platform and market.
• Conduct and support in-house and third-party compliance testing, including structure, chassis, and active safety systems.
• Evaluate how ride height changes and floor lowering affect ADAS sensors and functions.
• Work with regulatory authorities, test labs, OEM partners, and internal engineering teams.
• Track changes to our conversions and OEM base vehicles and assess their regulatory impact.
• Stay current on upcoming regulations and help the business plan for them.
• Support Production with certification labeling, conformity of production, audits, and annual compliance updates.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or a related engineering field. Master's Degree preferred.
• General understanding of automotive systems, vehicle development, and EV architecture.
• Ability to meet deadlines in a time-sensitive environment.
• Ability to travel domestically, with occasional international travel, and a valid US driver’s license.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Experience with FMVSS, CMVSS, or UNECE compliance and certification.
• Experience working with NHTSA, EPA, or CARB.
• Familiarity with alterer certification and mobility standards such as NMEDA QAP, SAE J2249, and ADA accessibility requirements a plus.
• Experience with vehicle-level testing and data acquisition tools (LINK V-MAX, Dewesoft, IPETRONIK) a plus.
• Familiarity with Vector CANoe/CANalyzer, ISO 26262, or SOTIF (ISO 21448) a plus.
