2. Job Purpose
The Data Center Design Engineer will be
responsible for developing, coordinating, and overseeing the design of data
center infrastructure, ensuring that architectural, electrical, mechanical, and
low-voltage systems meet the required technical standards, operational
requirements, and project specifications. The role will involve coordinating
multidisciplinary design activities, preparing technical documentation,
planning infrastructure capacity, and providing technical support throughout
project implementation.
3. Key Responsibilities
Overall Architecture Design
· Develop the overall
architecture and layout of data centers, including zoning, space planning, and
building design.
· Ensure compliance with relevant
industry standards, including TIA-942 and GB 50174.
Infrastructure Systems Design
· Lead or coordinate the design
of electrical systems, including UPS, power distribution, and generators.
· Oversee mechanical systems
design, including HVAC, airflow management, and hot/cold aisle configurations.
· Coordinate low-voltage systems
design, including structured cabling, Building Management Systems (BMS), and
Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM).
Drawings and Technical Documentation
· Prepare detailed construction
drawings, equipment specifications, Bills of Quantities (BOQs), and technical
proposals.
· Ensure designs are technically
sound, practical, and suitable for implementation and project handover.
Cross-functional Coordination
· Collaborate with structural,
fire protection, and architectural teams to resolve design conflicts.
· Address technical coordination
issues relating to cable trays, load-bearing requirements, and fire
compartmentalization.
· Participate in bid
clarification meetings and provide technical input where required.
Capacity and Redundancy Planning
· Plan power, cooling, and
network capacity based on projected IT load requirements.
· Incorporate appropriate
redundancy configurations, including N+1 and 2N.
· Ensure designs align with Power
Usage Effectiveness (PUE) targets and operational efficiency requirements.
Project Support and Implementation
· Participate in site surveys,
equipment commissioning, and system testing, including mock load testing.
· Provide technical support
during construction and implementation.
· Assist in resolving design
changes, technical challenges, and site-related issues.
4. Academic and Professional Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree or higher in
Electrical Engineering, Mechanical/HVAC Engineering, Automation Engineering, or
a related field.
· Professional engineering
registration or relevant industry certifications will be an added advantage.
5. Professional Knowledge and Technical Skills

design standards, including TIA-942, GB 50174, and Uptime Institute Tier
Standards.
· Understanding of electrical,
mechanical, HVAC, and low-voltage infrastructure systems.
· Knowledge of power and cooling
redundancy configurations and PUE optimization strategies.
· Familiarity with MV generators,
UPS systems, high-voltage DC, free cooling, and liquid cooling solutions.
Software and Design Skills
· Proficiency in AutoCAD and
Revit (BIM).
· Experience using electrical and
HVAC design tools.
· CFD airflow simulation
experience will be an added advantage.
Preferred Professional Certifications
· Licensed Professional Engineer
(PE/CEng).
· LEED AP.
· Uptime Institute Accredited
Tier Designer (ATD).
· Certified Data Centre
Professional (CDCP).
Requirements
6. Years of Working Experience
A minimum of 5 years of relevant
professional experience in large-scale data center design or complex MEP
project design. Experience in full-cycle data center design projects,
preferably involving facilities with at least 1,000 racks, is an added advantage.
7. Key Competencies and Other Requirements
· Strong analytical and technical
problem-solving skills.
· Excellent cross-functional
coordination and communication skills.
· Ability to work under pressure
and meet project deadlines.
