Role purpose
The Technical Manager will lead the multidisciplinary engineering organization delivering the Next Generation Platform. The role owns delivery execution, people leadership, capacity planning, engineering effectiveness, and cross-workstream coordination across platform modernization, robotic controls, Edge/HMI, data acquisition, quality, and DevSecOps.
Key responsibilities
- Convert the multi-year product and technology roadmap into executable release plans, team objectives, milestones, dependencies, and staffing plans.
- Lead engineers and technical leads across software development, QA, platform engineering, and related disciplines; create clear accountability and a healthy engineering culture.
- Coordinate delivery across Spring Boot modernization, modular services, platform setup, robotic applications, controls, Edge/HMI, operational insights, and data-platform initiatives.
- Own predictable delivery for the planned release cadence, including readiness reviews, pilot support, stabilization, and product-line rollout.
- Partner with Product Management and the Technical Architect to balance scope, sequencing, technical debt, risk, and business value.
- Manage capacity against roadmap demand, identify skill gaps, support recruitment, and make build/buy/partner recommendations when appropriate.
- Establish engineering metrics for flow, quality, reliability, security, and release readiness; use evidence to improve outcomes.
- Ensure teams follow appropriate design, coding, review, testing, documentation, security, and operational practices.
- Proactively manage delivery risks involving external teams, equipment availability, PLC/robot dependencies, customer pilots, and integration environments.
- Facilitate decisions and escalation across stakeholders while keeping teams focused on outcomes.
- Coach leads and senior engineers, conduct performance and development conversations, and build succession plans.
- Support budget, vendor, and partner management where applicable.
Required experience and capabilities
- Minimum 12 years of software or product-engineering experience, including at least 4 years managing engineering teams or complex technical programs.
- Successful delivery of multi-team, multi-release platforms involving Java/Spring Boot, APIs, CI/CD, security, and distributed systems.
- Strong understanding of software architecture and engineering practices, with enough technical depth to challenge estimates, risks, and design decisions.
- Experience managing modernization alongside ongoing product delivery and operational support.
- Demonstrated workforce planning, hiring, coaching, performance management, and stakeholder-management capability.
- Strong program execution skills covering planning, dependencies, risk, change, quality gates, and release readiness.
- Experience in warehouse automation, robotics, industrial software, controls, or operational technology is highly desirable.
- Clear, concise communication with engineering teams, product leaders, business stakeholders, partners, and customers.
