About this role

Job Title: Buyer Job Description The Buyer supports a local manufacturing operation by converting material demand into purchase orders and managing those orders through their full lifecycle. This role places and maintains purchase orders, coordinates closely with suppliers, and ensures that materials arrive on time and meet quality and cost expectations. The Buyer works in a fast-paced, high-volume environment using ERP/MRP systems, preferably SAP, and Excel to manage demand, maintain accurate data, and keep stakeholders informed. This position offers broad ownership of the buying process, exposure to complex, cutting-edge equipment, and the opportunity to contribute directly to a growing manufacturing operation. Responsibilities

- Convert material demand from the manufacturing and planning teams into accurate and timely purchase orders.
- Create, place, and maintain purchase orders in the ERP/MRP system, ensuring correct quantities, pricing, and delivery dates.
- Manage purchase orders through their full lifecycle, from initial placement through receipt, invoicing, and closure.
- Follow up proactively with suppliers to confirm delivery dates and ensure on-time material availability.
- Expedite critical materials when needed to support production schedules and mitigate potential line-down situations.
- Resolve past-due orders by investigating root causes, coordinating with suppliers, and updating internal stakeholders.
- Address invoice discrepancies by working with suppliers and internal finance or accounts payable teams to reconcile pricing, quantities, and terms.
- Coordinate returns and rejected material processes, including arranging return shipments and tracking replacement or credit.
- Support and participate in corrective action activities when supply issues impact production or customer commitments.
- Support engineering change activity by updating purchase orders and supplier communication in response to Engineering Change Orders (ECO) and Engineering Change Requests (ECR).
- Communicate with suppliers regarding pricing, lead times, delivery expectations, and any changes driven by engineering or production needs.
- Use an ERP/MRP system, preferably SAP, to manage demand, maintain accurate material and supplier data, and track order status.
- Use Excel to analyze data, manage reports, and support decision-making related to purchasing and material planning.
- Maintain a high level of data accuracy in purchasing and material records to support effective planning and reporting.
- Keep internal stakeholders, including supply chain, engineering, and operations teams, updated on material status, risks, and changes.
- Handle escalations related to supply issues, material shortages, or supplier performance with a strong sense of ownership and urgency.
- Participate in Material Review Board (MRB) and corrective action activities related to nonconforming or rejected materials.
- Apply negotiation skills to secure favorable pricing, terms, and delivery conditions with suppliers within defined guidelines.
- Review and interpret blueprints to ensure that purchased components meet technical and engineering requirements.
- Support mechanical or engineered component purchasing as needed, particularly in a high-tech or complex manufacturing environment.
- Manage multiple priorities and a meaningful part count within a defined supplier base in a fast-paced, high-volume setting.
- Collaborate closely with a team of buyers and cross-functional partners to support a growing manufacturing operation.
- Demonstrate ownership, urgency, and attention to detail in daily purchasing activities and problem resolution.

Essential Skills

- Minimum 2+ years of buying or procurement experience in a manufacturing or high-tech environment.
- Experience working in a purchasing or procurement role supporting a manufacturing operation.
- Hands-on experience with MRP/ERP systems for purchasing and material planning.
- Ability to work with an ERP/MRP system, preferably SAP, to manage purchase orders and material demand.
- Strong Excel skills and data-handling ability for reporting, analysis, and decision support.
- Experience with supplier management, including communication, follow-up, and performance monitoring.
- Proficiency in purchase order management, including creation, maintenance, and lifecycle tracking.
- Experience with expediting and schedule management to support production requirements.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with high transaction volume.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in managing data, orders, and documentation.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills with a customer service mindset when working with internal and external stakeholders.
- Negotiation capability with suppliers regarding pricing, terms, and delivery.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints to align purchased components with engineering requirements.
- Comfort working through escalations, participating in MRBs, and supporting corrective action activity.
- Demonstrated ownership, urgency, and ability to work with minimal supervision in resolving supply issues.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Bachelors degree in Supply Chain or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience purchasing mechanical or engineered components in a manufacturing or high-tech environment is a plus.
- Exposure to purchasing in environments that support semiconductors, communications, AI, or advanced electronics is beneficial.
- Experience working with Engineering Change Orders (ECO) and Engineering Change Requests (ECR).
- Interest in developing a career in procurement, supplier management, or broader manufacturing operations.
- Desire for broad ownership of the buying process and end-to-end supply chain exposure rather than narrow transactional tasks.

Work Environment This role operates in a combined manufacturing and office-based purchasing environment that supports local operations. The setting is fast-paced and team-oriented, with frequent cross-functional interaction across supply chain, engineering, and operations. The Buyer is part of a collaborative team of approximately six buyers, each managing a meaningful part count and defined supplier base. Work is performed primarily during standard first-shift business hours, Monday through Friday, unless otherwise specified by the client.
