About this role

Global Controller — Job Description

October 2026

About the role

We're hiring our first US-based Controller to make our books audit-ready and build an accounting function that scales from $40M to $100M+ in revenue. Koantek is a Series B company with multiple legal entities, a growing global footprint, and an offshore accounting team in India. Our data is not yet where it needs to be, and we have never completed a US financial statement audit. This role owns fixing both. You'll report to the VP, Finance & Accounting and lead our India accounting team. This is a builder role: hands-on in the first year, then shifting toward leadership as the team and systems mature.

Title: Controller · Reports to: VP, Finance & Accounting · Location: Fully remote (US-based), with regular overlap with India (IST) hours · Type: Full-time

What you'll own in year one

Your first-year mandate is a reliable monthly close on trustworthy data, leading to a clean first US audit.

- Build a reliable close. Move to a documented close of 10 business days or fewer, then tighten toward 7.
- Make the data trustworthy. Partner with RevOps, FP&A, and systems owners so revenue, billing, and cost data reconcile to the GL.
- Lead our first US GAAP audit. Select and onboard the audit firm with the VP, Finance & Accounting, prepare the PBC list, build opening balances, and drive the audit to an unqualified opinion.
- Clean up historical books. Reconcile and restate prior periods as needed. Fix the chart of accounts, entity structure in the GL, and intercompany balances.
- Own multi-entity consolidation. Intercompany eliminations, FX translation, and transfer pricing documentation in partnership with tax advisors.
- Lead and level up the India team. Partner with our India Accounting Director to set clear ownership, review standards, and US GAAP training across AP, AR, payroll, revenue, and close, so the team produces audit-quality work.

Core responsibilities

Area

What you own

Close & reporting

Monthly, quarterly, and annual close; consolidated US GAAP financial statements; board and investor reporting packages; flux and variance analysis

Audit & compliance

Audit firm relationship, PBC delivery, audit adjustments, technical memos; lender and investor covenant reporting

Revenue accounting

ASC 606 policy and execution across services, subscriptions, and partner/reseller arrangements; deferred and unbilled revenue; contract reviews with Sales and Legal

Multi-entity & intercompany

Entity-level books, intercompany agreements and settlements, eliminations, FX, transfer pricing support

Technical accounting

Policies and memos for ASC 606, 842 (leases), 718 (stock comp), capitalized software, and convertible or preferred equity

Controls

Design a right-sized internal control framework: segregation of duties, approval matrices, reconciliation and review sign-offs. Diligence-ready, without SOX-level overhead

Systems & data

Own the GL and close tooling; help lead ERP evaluation and selection with the VP, Finance & Accounting; integrations with billing, payroll, expense, and CRM

Tax & statutory

Coordinate external tax advisors on federal, state, sales/use, and international filings; statutory audits for foreign entities, including India

Treasury support

Cash reconciliation, cash forecasting inputs, bank and payment controls

Team leadership

Manage the India Accounting Director and, through them, a five-person team covering AP, AR, payroll, FDE/services revenue accounting, and close; hiring plan; performance standards; US GAAP and audit training

What we're looking for

Nice-to-haves

- Professional services, consulting, or data/cloud partner business model (time-and-materials, fixed-fee, milestone billing)
- ERP implementation or migration (NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or similar)
- Exposure to India statutory requirements, transfer pricing, or a Big 4 India relationship
- Led finance through an exit to a PE or strategic buyer: quality of earnings, diligence data rooms, and purchase agreement support
- Comfort with data tools (SQL, BI dashboards) to fix data at the source

How you work

- You bring order to ambiguity without waiting for perfect information
- You document everything: policies, close checklists, memos
- You develop people; your team is stronger after a year with you
- You raise bad news early

How success is measured

Timeframe

Outcomes

First 30 days

Assess the books, team, systems, and entity structure. Deliver a written gap assessment and audit-readiness plan to the VP, Finance & Accounting

First 60 days

Audit firm engaged. Close checklist and ownership matrix in place. Top balance sheet reconciliations cleaned up

First 90 days

Consistent close in 15 business days or fewer. Revenue recognition policy documented. Intercompany balances reconciled across entities

6 months

Close in 10 business days. Opening balances and prior-period cleanup complete. Audit fieldwork underway

12 months

Unqualified audit opinion. Close in 7–10 business days. Documented key controls. India team operating with clear ownership and fewer review corrections

Why join

This role is built for someone who wants ownership and growth, not a steady-state seat.

- Build it your way. You'll design the close, controls, and policies, not inherit them
- Grow with the company. Your scope and role grow as we scale toward $100M
- Work with senior leadership. Partner directly with the company's senior leaders
- Equity. Equity participation may be available

Requirements

Must-haves

- CPA (active or inactive) with 10+ years of experience, including 3+ years at a Big 4 or national audit firm
- 4+ years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role at a venture-backed company between $25M and $150M in revenue
- Led at least one company through a first-time US GAAP audit, or remediated a messy set of books into an audit-ready state
- Hands-on multi-entity consolidation, including intercompany and FX across at least one non-US entity
- Strong ASC 606 experience, ideally with services and recurring revenue
- Managed offshore or distributed accounting teams, ideally in India, with a track record of raising work quality
- Willing to be hands-on: you'll prepare entries and reconciliations when needed, not just review
