About this role
💬 Accurx is where conversations happen with and about patients.
For decades, the NHS has struggled with fragmented systems that make simple tasks feel impossible. We’re changing that by building a single, system-wide platform that connects everyone through communication.
What started as a way for GPs to text a patient has now evolved into an all-in-one digital toolkit used by 98% of GP practices.
Our platform now powers Total Triage to manage patient demand, and Self-Book, which lets patients schedule their own appointments in seconds. We’ve automated routine care with Patient Questionnaires for long-term conditions, while Accumail finally allows staff-to-staff communication to happen instantly across different care settings. We’re now pushing the boundaries of the consultation itself with Accurx Scribe , our AI-powered note-taker that drafts medical notes in real-time.
The team
We are a mission-driven team of 80 engineers based in London and the surrounding areas, united by the challenge of fixing healthcare communication. We are innovating for the NHS at a scale and depth that has never been done before, solving the real-world problems that stand between millions of patients and the care they need.
We are a highly cross-functional group where engineering, product, data, and security collaborate as true peers. We foster a low-ego, high-impact environment that values expertise and new ideas, maintaining the high standards required to build and scale a national healthcare communication platform. Within this ecosystem, our teams operate with high autonomy, owning everything from initial system design to long-term service stability.
As a Senior Data Engineer, you'll sit at the intersection of our Analytics Engineering, Product, and BI teams, expanding our data modelling and self-serve capabilities, and building the foundations that turn data from a support function into a strategic asset. Healthcare systems are struggling; our solution is communication.
We have a bold vision: everyone involved in a patient’s care - including the patient - should be able to communicate easily with each other. And we believe every NHS staff member should be using our software to make that happen. We want to make healthcare genuinely better.
We are solving one of the biggest challenges of our generation, and to do this, we need the best talent possible to help us raise the bar… this is where you come in.
Our products are used by over 98% of GP practices and half of NHS hospitals, impacting millions of lives. As a Senior Data Engineer , your role will be mission-critical. You will be central to shaping the core communication infrastructure of the NHS. You’ll directly enable faster, safer, and more accessible patient care by ensuring that the vast flow of communication data is structured, reliable, and ready to power life-saving insights and real-time decision-making.
The Unique Challenges You'll Solve
This isn't just about executing tasks or managing projects. You'll be:
- Architecting for the NHS Scale: Designing and scaling a robust data architecture that handles massive event-driven communication flows across nearly every GP practice in the UK.
- Bridging the Gap Between Engineering and Insight: Collaborating deeply with product and data teams to transform raw healthcare communication data into high-performance models for analytics and Machine Learning.
- Building Resilient ELT Ecosystems: Implementing sophisticated ELT practices in a cloud environment where data integrity and security are paramount for patient safety.
What We're Looking For:
We’re looking for a Senior Data Scientist with strong data engineering foundations — someone who enjoys getting hands-on with pipelines as much as building models.
- End-to-End Pipeline Builder
Proven experience designing and implementing ingestion and ETL/ELT pipelines from scratch using Python and SQL in production environments.
- Strong Data Modelling & Warehousing Expertise
Deep understanding of modern cloud data platforms (e.g. Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) and data transformation tools like DBT, with a focus on creating clean, reliable, and reusable datasets.
- AI & ML Curiosity
Experience (or strong interest) in building and operationalising machine learning models, with an eye toward how strong data foundations enable better AI outcomes.
- Architectural Ownership
Comfortable making and owning decisions around data architecture to support analytics, experimentation, and ML at scale.
- Product & Impact Mindset
You think beyond pipelines — you care about how data drives real-world outcomes, especially in a healthcare context.
- Highly Collaborative
Able to work cross-functionally with product, engineering, and data teams to shape problems and deliver solutions.
- Comfortable with Ambiguity
Excited by greenfield challenges, undefined problems, and the opportunity to build something meaningful from the ground up.
Our Principles in Action
- Fix healthcare communication: Healthcare systems are struggling; our solution is communication - all of our efforts are centred here.
- Raise the bar: We have built an exceptional team to solve hard challenges. We hire for expertise and new ideas, maintaining high standards, giving honest feedback, and only delivering work we're proud of.
- Be a driver, not a passenger: We make things happen, focus on the right problems, and bring the energy to deliver ambitious goals.
- Succeed together: We succeed only as a team. Our mission is too important for anything less, so company success always comes first.
- Move with urgency: We’re on a mission, and every day lost is a missed opportunity to improve lives. We work at pace and focus on our mission, our users, and our impact.
- Be relentlessly resourceful: We embrace constraints as they force us to think differently, be creative, and focus.
- Embrace challenge: We value constructive conflict over harmony, having tough conversations for the best outcome.
What’s in it for you?
You’ll join a high-performing team on a mission to solve healthcare productivity, building a platform used by around 300k NHS staff every week, supporting the care of over 50 million NHS patients every year. We set a high bar, move fast, and give people the ownership and support to do the best work of their careers
