About this role
The Virtual Environments Lab (VEL) is part of the Human Systems Integration and Engineering Team, which is responsible for evaluating spacecraft and ground hardware designs for human usability. Early in the design lifecycle, we ensure that hardware being designed will meet the requirements for technicians to be able to assemble the hardware, for maintenance personnel to be able to fix the hardware, and for astronauts to be able to use the hardware effectively in space. We do this by building mockups of the hardware to evaluate and by putting participants in virtual reality to evaluate virtual versions of these systems.
Marshall Space Flight Center’s Human Systems Integration and Engineering Team is looking for a virtual reality developer intern to support simulation development in the VEL. The VEL uses Unity and Unreal Engine 5 to develop virtual reality simulations used for engineering analysis. We are looking for candidates with experience in these game engines, programming experience (C++/C#), familiarity with version control software such as Perforce, and/or 3D modeling experience. Technologies used include VR and AR headsets, alongside full-body motion capture when needed. In this position, you will create simulations to support the development of space flight and ground processing hardware at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
