About this role

Position: BEHAVIOR TECHNICIAN–PARAPROFESSIONAL
(Intensive Behavioral Support Services)
Reports to: Clinical Supervisor, BCBA
Compensation: $24-$28/hour, depending on experience
Schedule: Approximately 25 hours per week, typically five hours per day, five days per week. Assignment times may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on client needs.
Location: Primarily serving the North Bay, including Napa, Solano, and Sonoma counties.
About the Role
Help people with developmental disabilities stay safe, build skills and take part in daily life at home and in their communities.
Atlas Home Health is launching an Intensive Behavioral Support program with North Bay Regional Center. You’ll work one-on-one with children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities. A Board Certified Behavior Analyst trains and supervises you in the field.
What you’ll do
• Follow each client’s behavior support plan during everyday routines at home and in the community
• Teach communication, coping, safety and daily-living skills
• Use positive, approved strategies to prevent and calm difficult moments
• Track behavior and progress data and write clear session notes on a tablet or phone
• Keep your BCBA and the family informed about what you’re seeing

What the work is really like
Many clients in this program have behaviors that put themselves or others at risk. You may be hit, kicked, bitten or scratched, see self-injury or property damage, or hear yelling and threats. This job isn’t for everyone, and we want you to know that up front.
You will have support. Every client has a written plan, you’re trained on that plan before you start, and a BCBA supervises as recommended in the plan. Office on-call support is available 24/7.
The role is physical: sitting on the floor, kneeling, moving quickly.  You may need to lift and carry up to 30 lbs., such as supplies, equipment, or a young child when directed by the client’s plan. Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance or a lifting aid. Behavior Technicians do not independently lift or transfer adult clients
What you need
• At least 6 months working with people with developmental disabilities (paid or volunteer; e.g., school aide, group home, respite, camp, caregiving)
• High school diploma or equivalent. We provide the 30-hour competency training. An associate degree in a human services field or a behavior-related certification also qualifies.
• Patience, consistency and respect for the people you support
• Ability to pass a background check
• Valid CPR/first aid training

Nice to have
• Experience supporting challenging or high-intensity behavior
• Bi-lingual

What you get
• Paid training: about 40 hours before your first solo session, including crisis-prevention training
• Ongoing hands-on supervision and coaching from a BCBA
• Many shifts are afternoon, evening and weekend hours, a good fit for students and anyone building an ABA career.  Some clients need care during daytime hours as well.
• A small team where your feedback shapes a new program
