About this role
Supporting the design of learning experiences and self-assessments through a workbook that helps diverse learners explore sustainability transitions individually and collectively.
Job description
The project and Workbook. As an Education Development Officer, you will support the development of engaging learning experiences and self-assessments for the Cross-boundary Workbook for Transformation and Learning, one of three outputs of the EU-funded City as a Laboratory (CAL:TS) project (https://www.tu.berlin/en/vp-sl/transdisciplinary-learning/calts-the-city-as-a-laboratory). The project was established within the ENHANCE Alliance of European Universities of Technology through a partnership between TU Berlin, Politecnico di Milano, and TU Delft.
The Workbook's purpose. The Cross-boundary Workbook encourages students and professionals from academic, government, business, cultural, and civil society organisations to develop a reflective practice by critically examining their experiences, assumptions, and roles in addressing interconnected social, economic, and environmental challenges. It supports learners in moving beyond isolated towards collaborative initiatives across disciplines, places, and organisational boundaries.
Development so far. The Workbook is being developed as an open-access resource for both print and online publication. Development began in November 2025 as part of the City as a Laboratory project. Between February and June 2026, the editorial team organised workshops across the three partner universities to reflect on cross-boundary practices, define requirements, and identify initial cases and tools for inclusion.
A preliminary version of the Workbook is already available ( https://storymaps.arcgis.com/collections/1900557c728a4b98bb2d98b73783dccb ). It includes the first two modules, a glossary of terms, the Learning Journey Portfolio, an overview of requirements, and insights from the Summer School Bootcamp and Knowledge Exchange Masterclass. During these activities, students and professionals used the Workbook and provided feedback for further improvement.
The Workbook's conceptual framework, requirements, structure, and initial content have already been developed by the editorial team. The next phase focuses on refining, testing, and publishing the final version. You will work closely with the project and editorial team to support the development of learning materials for both online and print editions.
Key responsibilities. Starting in January 2027, you will join the project and editorial team for two days per week over a two-year period. The final Workbook will comprise six modules and be published through the TU Delft Open Interactive Textbooks platform (https://interactivetextbooks.tudelft.nl/open-textbooks-demonstration/index.html), while also being produced in print by TU Berlin and Politecnico di Milano. Publication of the Workbook and its appendices is planned for September and November 2028.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Supporting the review and refinement of Workbook content to help ensure that each module addresses project requirements and provides opportunities for reflection, self-assessment, and practical application.
2. Assisting with the development of the Workbook's digital learning environment, including Jupyter Book templates, interactive learning activities, self-assessments, quizzes, embedded media, glossary references, and navigation features that support self-directed learning.
3. Supporting the testing and improvement of Workbook materials and learning activities by collecting and incorporating feedback from students, educators, and professionals.
4. Contributing to the accessibility, usability, and visual consistency of the Workbook across online and print formats, including support for publication-ready materials.
5. Helping integrate cases, tools, experiences, and learning resources into the Workbook and its appendices, while assisting with the documentation of templates, examples, and design guidelines for future use and maintenance.
