About this role
Position Overview We are seeking a skilled MS&A Engineer with expertise in AFSIM, Python, and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to join the team at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL/RY). In this role, you will apply your skills in modeling, simulation, and analysis to develop sensor models and mission scenarios, supporting the Department of the Air Force in addressing evolving threats and maintaining a technological edge. Your work will directly contribute to enhancing AFRL/RY’s mission planning, decision-making, and sensor deployment strategies, driving data-driven decisions for both classified and unclassified projects.
Role and Responsibilities Develop and refine sensor models and simulations using AFSIM to create realistic mission scenarios aligned with operational objectives. Design and build dynamic mission scenarios, performing quick-turn analysis to optimize sensor performance and deployment in both classified and unclassified contexts. Conduct mission utility analyses to recommend optimal sensor parameters, enhance sensor placement and operational effectiveness. Create OV1 videos to visually represent complex scenarios, supporting decision-making for key stakeholders. Evaluate sensor systems' effectiveness by analyzing their ability to detect and track targets under varying mission conditions. Perform sensitivity analyses to assess sensor system performance and reliability across multiple operational conditions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate models and simulation results into broader defense engineering projects. Use Jira and Confluence to manage agile sprints, track progress, and deliver results on schedule. Provide guidance on MS&A best practices, ensuring simulations and models meet the highest standards.
Qualifications and Education Requirements Required Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or a closely related discipline. 3+ years of experience in AFSIM modeling, including simulation development and mission scenario analysis. Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) for system design and documentation. Background in Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis (MS&A) within defense-related environments. Proficiency in Python or a similar scripting language for simulation or data analysis. Ability to work effectively within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team. Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Experience working within an Agile development framework. Desired Master’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline. 5+ years of experience with AFSIM, including complex simulation and scenario refinement. Experience using Cameo for MBSE or system architecture modeling. Familiarity with sensor modeling and sensitivity analysis in operational contexts.
