About this role
Modeling & Simulation Engineer – Weapon Systems MTSI is seeking a mid-level Modeling & Simulation Engineer to support the development and evaluation of warhead performance requirements through physics-based modeling, simulation, and engineering analysis. The successful candidate will assess weapon effectiveness against specified target types across varying engagement conditions and weapon system constraints. This position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, a solid engineering foundation, and the ability to interpret simulation results and communicate technical findings. The candidate will learn to utilize specialized lethality modeling tools, including BALAGAN, KWEval, and Python-based analytical workflows to support weapon system development and engineering decisions.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform lethality analyses to support the development and evaluation of warhead performance requirements for weapon systems.
- Evaluate weapon effectiveness against specified target types under varying engagement conditions and weapon system constraints.
- Develop and execute simulation scenarios using established lethality modeling tools, including BALAGAN.
- Conduct parametric studies, sensitivity analyses, and Monte Carlo simulations to assess performance and identify key influencing factors.
- Utilize Python and other analytical tools to process simulation data, evaluate results, and generate visualizations.
- Prepare technical reports and briefings that clearly communicate analytical methodologies, results, and engineering conclusions.
- Collaborate with engineering teams and government stakeholders to define analysis objectives, communicate findings, and support program decisions.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a closely related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in engineering analysis, modeling and simulation, or a related technical field.
- Strong foundation in engineering mathematics, physics, and analytical problem-solving.
- Experience performing computational analyses, interpreting numerical data, and evaluating engineering results.
- Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, C++, C#, or similar programming languages and a willingness to learn specialized analytical tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a technical environment.
- Active DoD Secret security clearance.
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
- 7 years of relevant experience in engineering analysis, modeling and simulation, or a related technical field.
- Experience performing weapon lethality, target vulnerability, or weapon system effectiveness analyses.
- Familiarity with lethality modeling tools such as BALAGAN, KWEval, AJEM, or similar analytical environments.
- Experience with six-degree-of-freedom (6DOF) trajectory modeling and simulation, including analysis of weapon flight dynamics and engagement conditions.
- Understanding of warhead characteristics, terminal ballistics, fragmentation, blast effects, or penetration mechanics.
- Experience conducting engineering trade studies, Monte Carlo simulations, sensitivity analyses, or statistical evaluations.
- Experience with CAD software, such as BRL-CAD or SolidWorks
- Familiarity with Linux operating systems and high-performance computing (HPC) environments, including command-line operations and batch job execution.
