Job Title: Accounting Contractor Insurance Programs (Automotive Focus) Job Description This role supports specialized insurance and reinsurance programs in the automotive industry, including auto dealers, lenders, fleets, warranties, and GAP insurance. The accounting contractor accurately records and reconciles reinsurance cession transactions in QuickBooks so financial statements clearly reflect gross, ceded, and net premium and loss activity. This is focused insurance accounting work rather than standard accounts payable or accounts receivable, and requires strong transactional insurance accounting experience, excellent knowledge of debits and credits, and the ability to manage highvolume, detailheavy data entry with precision. Responsibilities
- Accurately enter reinsurance cession transactions into QuickBooks, including ceded premiums, commissions, losses, and related payables and receivables.
- Ensure financial statements correctly reflect gross, ceded, and net results for insurance and reinsurance programs.
- Reconcile reinsurance-related accounts to supporting schedules and documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Review and validate data received from insurers, managing general agents (MGAs), and thirdparty administrators to confirm consistency and correctness.
- Use Excel extensively to organize, validate, and prepare data for system entry, including large volumes of transactional information.
- Assist with monthend close activities related to reinsurance accounting, including reconciliations and supporting journal entries.
- Identify and flag discrepancies, missing data, or transaction issues, and collaborate with stakeholders to resolve them promptly.
- Maintain clean audit trails and thorough documentation supporting all entries and reconciliations.
- Follow established accounting workflows and insurance reporting standards, adhering to internal controls and best practices.
- Support reconciliation of complex insurance-related general ledger accounts, ensuring alignment with reinsurance statements and treaty accounting records.
Essential Skills
- 12 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in insurance or reinsurance.
- Experience with insurance or reinsurance accounting, including cessions, premiums, commissions, and losses.
- Strong understanding of debits and credits and the differences between balance sheet and profit and loss (P&L) treatment.
- Hands-on experience entering highvolume transactions in QuickBooks.
- Proficiency with Excel, including lookup functions, reconciliations, and data validation techniques.
- Ability to perform accurate reconciliations of insurance-related general ledger accounts.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial recordkeeping.
- Comfort working with repetitive, dataintensive tasks while maintaining high quality standards.
- Ability to follow structured processes, adhere to workflows, and meet deadlines with minimal oversight.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working with reinsurance statements or treaty accounting is highly beneficial.
- Familiarity with automotive insurance programs, including dealers, lenders, warranties, and GAP insurance.
- Prior experience supporting MGAs, insurance carriers, or reinsurance intermediaries.
- Background in general accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, collections, cash management, and reconciliation.
- Experience with invoice entry, invoice processing, invoice reconciliation, and purchase order workflows.
- Comfort using QuickBooks for invoicing and insurance-related transaction processing.
- Basic to advanced Excel skills, including data organization and validation for high-volume entries.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain organized documentation and audit-ready records.
- Interest in growing within a rapidly expanding organization that promotes from within.
Work Environment This role is based in an office environment and initially requires working on-site five days per week to support training, collaboration, and close coordination with the accounting and insurance teams. After transitioning to a permanent role and demonstrating strong performance, the position offers a hybrid schedule with approximately two days in the office and three days working from home. The work involves extensive use of QuickBooks and Excel, frequent interaction with insurance-related data from carriers, MGAs, and thirdparty administrators, and a focus on accuracy, documentation, and audit-ready processes. The company is growing rapidly, offers opportunities for internal advancement, and promotes from within, providing a supportive environment for professionals looking to build their career in insurance accounting.
