About this role
Job Description :
Corporate tax teams are being asked to do more, faster, and under greater scrutiny than ever—and AI is about to change how the work gets done. Are you a tax professional who wants to decide what that change looks like? As Senior Tax Product Specialist on the ONESOURCE Direct Tax team, you will be the practitioner at the table where our products are designed, built, and tested—making sure what we ship works the way corporate tax departments actually work. (Note: The equivalent industry role is typically a Tax Manager or Tax Director)
You will partner with product, engineering, and data science teams, and with enterprise customers and partners, to shape product content, functionality, and AI-powered capabilities across the corporate income tax lifecycle—from provision and compliance to planning and controversy. Your tax and accounting background is not incidental to this role; it is the foundation. You will bring the judgment of someone who has closed the books, filed the returns, and answered the auditor's questions, and you will use it to make our products accurate, intuitive, and trusted.
This role also carries a mandate to advance AI across ONESOURCE Direct Tax solutions. You will develop, test, and validate how agentic AI and intelligent automation apply to corporate tax workflows, give engineering and data science teams candid, practitioner-grounded feedback, and help define what responsible, high-quality AI looks like in a regulated tax environment.
Key Responsibilities :
Product Roadmap Delivery & AI
- Shape and validate product content and functionality across ONESOURCE Direct Tax solutions, drawing on firsthand experience with how corporate tax departments handle provision, compliance, planning, and reporting.
- Apply deep knowledge of corporate income tax—including ASC 740 and federal and state compliance—to assess product capabilities and surface high-impact improvement opportunities.
- Develop, test, and validate agentic AI and intelligent automation across the direct tax lifecycle, including document understanding, data mapping and reconciliation, anomaly detection, and AI-assisted review.
- Give engineers and data scientists direct, practitioner-grounded feedback on AI feature accuracy, performance, and real-world fit, using independent judgment built on tax experience.
- Lead the development of advanced use cases for tax professionals using ONESOURCE and the broader Thomson Reuters AI portfolio, and build thought leadership in how AI applies to corporate tax practice.
- Partner with product managers to bring domain expertise to roadmap prioritization, requirement definition, and feature validation, so what gets built reflects how corporate tax work is actually done.
- Create guidance, use case documentation, and adoption resources that help tax professionals get value from new capabilities quickly.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Engage directly with enterprise customers—including corporate tax directors, controllers, tax managers, and Big Four advisors—as a credible peer who understands their workflows, pressures, and standards.
- Represent ONESOURCE in customer advisory boards, enterprise client engagements, and industry events, offering expert perspective on product direction and corporate tax best practices.
- Translate what you hear from practitioners into clear, actionable input for the product team, serving as the ongoing bridge between real-world tax practice and product development.
- Partner with Customer Success, Sales, and Support to drive adoption, resolve complex tax questions, and strengthen customer satisfaction and retention.
- Collaborate with UX/design, engineering, compliance, and go-to-market teams as the authoritative internal voice of the corporate tax professional throughout the product lifecycle.
- Coordinate with other Thomson Reuters divisions and teams on initiatives where direct tax expertise and cross-product alignment are needed.
Required Qualifications:
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field is required.
- CPA designation is required, or actively in progress.
Tax & Accounting Domain Expertise
- Minimum 5–7 years of professional experience in corporate tax or public accounting environment, with hands-on responsibility for corporate income tax provision, compliance, or planning.
- Deep, working knowledge of corporate direct tax processes is required, with demonstrated depth in at least one core area: income tax provision, compliance, or planning.
- Demonstrated ability to apply tax best practices to assess software functionality, identify gaps, and articulate what a high-quality direct tax solution should do.
- Prior use of enterprise corporate tax software—such as ONESOURCE, Checkpoint, Corptax, Longview, etc.—is strongly preferred; direct ONESOURCE experience is a significant plus.
AI & Technology Fluency
- Proven experience working with or evaluating AI tools in a professional context, with the ability to assess accuracy, reliability, and fitness for use in high-stakes tax workflows.
- Comfortable collaborating with engineering and data science teams to test AI-powered features and provide practitioner-grounded feedback.
- Awareness of responsible AI principles including auditability, explainability, and appropriate use of AI in regulated accounting and tax environments.
Communication & Collaboration
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex tax concepts into clear product guidance, customer-facing materials, and cross-functional requirements.
- Experience drafting guidance documents, use case materials, or training content for professional audiences.
- Proven ability to work effectively across internal teams — product, engineering, sales, and customer success — in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in a product specialist, solutions consultant, or subject matter expert role within a tax or financial technology company.
- Experience at a Big Four or large regional accounting firm, or within the tax function of a large multinational corporation.
- Hands-on experience testing, validating, or providing feedback on AI-powered features in enterprise software.
- Familiarity with ERP platforms relevant to tax data (SAP, Oracle, Workday, NetSuite).
- Experience presenting to or engaging with executive stakeholders in an advisory, SME, or thought leadership capacity.
