Position Summary

The Dishwasher / Dietary Server supports safe, sanitary, and efficient dietary operations at Emend New Haven, a residential behavioral health and substance use treatment facility. This position is responsible for dishwashing, kitchen and dining-area sanitation, and serving meals to clients from a designated food-service line. The employee works closely with dietary and operations staff to provide timely, respectful meal service while following food safety, infection prevention, confidentiality, and client safety procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Wash, rinse, sanitize, air-dry, and properly store dishes, utensils, trays, cookware, and food-service equipment in accordance with established procedures.

· Operate, clean, and monitor commercial dishwashing equipment; follow required temperature or sanitizer checks and report unsatisfactory results.

· Prevent cross-contamination by separating soiled and clean items and following safe food-handling and sanitation practices.

· Maintain clean, orderly dishwashing, kitchen, storage, and assigned dining areas, including counters, sinks, carts, floors, and waste receptacles.

· Prepare and set up the client food-service line before meals, including clean serving utensils, trays, dishes, and designated service equipment.

· Serve prepared meals to clients from the food line in a courteous, respectful, and efficient manner, following established portion sizes and meal-service procedures.

· Verify and follow dietary instructions communicated by authorized dietary or clinical staff, including approved special diets, allergies, and meal modifications; refer any uncertainty to the appropriate staff member before serving.

· Follow safe food-handling practices during service, including hand hygiene, glove use when appropriate, prevention of cross-contact, and required hot- and cold-food temperature procedures.

· Replenish the serving line as directed, maintain cleanliness and orderly client flow, and promptly communicate shortages or meal-service concerns to dietary staff.

· Break down, clean, and sanitize the food-service line and serving equipment after meals; properly handle remaining food according to facility procedures.

· Assist with setting up, replenishing, clearing, and cleaning dining areas before, during, and after client meals as directed.

· Maintain an adequate supply of clean serviceware during scheduled meal periods and coordinate priorities with dietary staff.

· Handle trash, recycling, and food waste safely and in accordance with facility procedures.

· Use, label, store, and handle cleaning chemicals and personal protective equipment safely; follow manufacturer instructions and facility protocols.

· Monitor dishwashing supplies and promptly report shortages, equipment malfunctions, leaks, broken items, pests, or sanitation and safety concerns.

· Complete assigned cleaning schedules, sanitation logs, and opening or closing tasks accurately when required.

· Observe infection-prevention, food-safety, workplace-safety, and applicable regulatory requirements and facility policies.

· Maintain appropriate professional conduct around clients, respect confidentiality, and promptly notify appropriate staff of client-related concerns rather than attempting to provide clinical services.

· Assist dietary staff with nonclinical meal-service support and other related tasks within training and assigned responsibilities.

· Perform other related duties as assigned.
