About this role

The Role and Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced operator to lead an American Operator commercial flooring company as CEO. This is an opportunity to step into a profitable business with a long-tenured team and established public-sector contracts already in place. You’ll assume full day-to-day operations and P&L responsibility. This is not a turnaround. Your job will be to retain the team and customers, build the systems and sales organization the business needs to scale beyond its founders, and grow from a position of strength. American Operator is your partner from day one, with a clear pathway to earn significant equity in the business you lead.

What You’ll Do

- Grow the business with a focus on key business performance metrics as you lead day-to-day operations
- Develop and lead a team with a culture of high accountability and performance, supported by clear systems and processes
- Lead the transition of school district, municipal, and county relationships from the founding owners to a scalable sales team
- Win, renew, and expand public-sector and cooperative purchasing contracts, and build new growth channels beyond the core market
- Ensure the field operations team delivers exceptional installation work while building year-round capacity
- Partner with American Operator on strategy, budgeting, and growth planning

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must meet every one of the following:

- 7+ years of leadership experience
- Experience owning P&L performance in a seasonal business
- Experience building high performance teams with accountability for hiring and firing
- Leadership in a trades or commercial services business that leveraged a subcontracted labor pool
- Experience leading sales and business development in a relationship-driven business
- Currently located in or a willingness to relocate to Long Island, New York

What Sets You Apart

- You have won and managed public-sector work through bids, cooperative contracts, or institutional procurement, and earned the trust of facilities leaders who value reliability over price
- Stepped in as the new leader after a leadership transition, turned founders who remained in the business into allies, and built trust with the existing team
- You brought structure (job costing, forecasting, a CRM) to an informal business without losing its culture
- A track record of driving growth in multiple roles and companies with a competitive spirit
