Job Summary:
OSU-Cascades invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 9-month fixed-term Instructor position in Mechanical Engineering - Product Design and Manufacturing (PD&M) at Oregon State University-Cascades in Bend, Oregon. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Senior Associate Dean .
This position is located in Bend, Oregon.
The incumbent performs teaching and service in support of the Product Design and Manufacturing option within the Mechanical Engineering major, with emphasis on manufacturing processes, product design, CAD/CAM, digital fabrication, materials selection, and hands-on engineering laboratory instruction. This position anchors the local-delivery course slate for the PD&M option at Cascades.
The PD&M option extends OSU's Mechanical Engineering major to OSU-Cascades, with its first cohort enrolling in Fall 2027. It is purpose-built for Central Oregon's regional industry economy (including outdoor recreation manufacturing, prototyping firms, additive-fab shops, and sustainable product companies) and leverages the campus's distinctive infrastructure, including a Stratasys PolyJet Objet260 industrial multi-material printer, a Tormach 770M CNC mill, an MTS Criterion materials testing system, an extensive additive manufacturing suite, and the OP:EN Studio for soft-goods product development. PD&M at Cascades is positioned as the “Digital Fabrication + Sustainable Product Realization” flavor of OSU's Mechanical Engineering portfolio ... differentiated from Corvallis's conventional-manufacturing PD&M and aligned with Central Oregon's industries and talent needs.
As an instructor in this new option, you will deliver hands-on laboratory and project-based instruction, advise and mentor PD&M-track students, oversee capstone and industry-partnered projects, and build sustained partnerships with regional industry employers. The role contributes to the long-term growth of Mechanical Engineering at OSU-Cascades.
OSU-Cascades, located in Bend, Oregon, is a branch campus of Oregon State University. Established in 2001, the university currently enrolls more than 1,300 students in bachelor's and master's degree programs. The campus expanded to a four-year university in 2015 and opened its new campus in 2016. The branch campus has ambitious enrollment goals to reach 3,000 to 5,000 students. OSU-Cascades is engaged in building a culturally diverse and community-centric educational environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instruction & Student Related Activities:Teach courses in support of the Mechanical Engineering major's Product Design and Manufacturing option at OSU-Cascades. Emphasis areas include manufacturing processes, production engineering, design for manufacturing, CAD/CAM, digital fabrication, materials, and hands-on engineering laboratory instruction. Additional Student Related Activities include program coordination, PD&M-track student advising, mentoring, internship and experiential education oversight, capstone project supervision, industry partnership coordination, and program review. Percentage of commitment (FTE) among these activities is evaluated and adjusted as needed.
- Scholarly Activities & Professional Development: Maintain professional currency within the discipline by engaging in scholarly and/or professional development activities that will support teaching, maintain professional engagement and mastery, and provide recognition for both the faculty member and the OSU-Cascades organization.
- Service:Meaningful participation in areas of service related to OSU-Cascades, the Central Oregon community, appropriate professional societies and/or community organizations, and committee work outside of the Mechanical Engineering program.
