For more information, visit our company’s website at www.nordhealth.comAbout the roleWe are here to create great healthcare products. That’s at our very core, but it’s the people who make companies great, not the other way around. We spend more time with our co-workers than anyone else in our lives. Being part of an exceptional team is not only important for your personal mindfulness but key for your professional progression. We’re now looking for a Senior Product Engineer to support our growth and join our Pay team! Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, Pay, your main goal is to lead projects across the payment stack and help set its direction. In this role, you will design before you build, and own each project from discovery with clinics to production. The Pay team owns how money moves through Provet: in-clinic card terminals, online checkout, cards on file, clinic onboarding, recurring payments for health plans and subscriptions, and the reconciliation that makes the numbers add up. Money moves on a schedule here. A wrong design charges a pet owner twice or fails to charge them at all, so correctness is part of the product, not an afterthought.Day to day you will work in Python and Django, React, Vue 3, TypeScript and Nuxt on our Nord design system, and cloud services on AWS. We integrate with established and trusted payment service providers. Tech stack is not a boundary. You own the problem wherever it lives. This is not a role for someone who waits for a ticket. You are the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for what you take on, and you own the result, including when it fails. Autonomy and trust are highly valued. We are AI-first: AI is your leverage, not your thinking. This is a unique opportunity to shape how money moves through Provet, starting with focused attention on health plans and subscriptions! 🚀Your key responsibilities include:Lead Pay projects end to end, from discovery with clinics to production, and understand how each one affects our veterinary partners.Shape and rebuild key parts of the product, starting with health plans and subscriptions.Turn ambiguity into scoped plans: what success means, what ships first, what is cut and why.Write short, clear design documents and prototypes, and evaluate options before you build.Challenge your peers' designs, and welcome the same challenge of your own.Build across the stack: data model, backend services and APIs, payment flows and the frontend.Design for money correctness: idempotent charges, safe retries, clear states and reconciliation that adds up.Own your work in production: observability, incidents, debriefs and the fixes that stop a repeat.Align the people your project depends on, including product, design, support and leadership, and say early when something is going sideways.Turn one-off fixes into reusable tools, agent workflows and conventions the team builds on.Raise the bar through code review, design review and mentoring. What will help you to be successful in this role?Ideally, you have already gained some experience from working in a fast growing, global SaaS company. In addition, our humble wishlist includes:5+ years building and running production software, with a track record of projects you scoped and led yourself.Strong Python and Django, or equivalent backend depth and the will to learn Django quickly.Solid modern frontend skills in React or Vue 3 with TypeScript, an eye for UX and a product opinion of your own.Familiarity with AWS.Experience designing systems that move money or carry state over time: payments, billing, subscriptions or similar.Deep, daily experience with coding agents such as Claude Code or Codex, with grounded opinions on where they help and where they fall short.Examples of design documents, prototypes or decisions you drove, and what happened next.Full proficiency in English, written and spoken.Clear communication: you make complex topics simple.Experience with payment service providers, or healthcare and veterinary software, is a plus.Success factors and key challenges of the roleDesign-first thinking: You frame the problem before you solve it. Your designs are simpler than the first idea and they age well.DRI ownership: Hand you only the goal and you scope it, ship it and own the outcome. Nobody needs to break the work down for you.Product judgement: You work from the clinic's and pet owner's problem to flows, prototypes and UI. You know when to say no to a feature.Sharp in the room: You think on your feet, ask the question that changes the plan and make a call with incomplete information.Clear, short communication: In writing and in person, you get to the point. A busy stakeholder understands your one-paragraph update.AI as leverage, not a crutch: You direct and verify agents in a way others copy. You never ship an idea, a design or a document you have not thought through yourself.Correctness under money: Recurring charges, retries, partial failures and payment provider webhooks do not scare you. You reason about the edge cases before production finds them. What’s in it for you?At Nordhealth, we do things a little bit differently.
