ABOUT THE ROLE

The ESS Operator (Environmental Stress Screening) conducts Environmental Stress Screening and vibration testing of EO systems and other assigned equipment, in accordance with approved procedures, MIL-STD-810, OEM specifications, and internal quality requirements.
The role covers test preparation and setup, operation of single-axis and multi-axis vibration test systems, monitoring and recording of test data, equipment care, and documentation, working closely with EO Technicians, Engineers, Quality, and MRO/Production teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

ESS Testing & Operations
● Conduct Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) activities for EO systems and other assigned equipment in accordance with approved procedures, applicable MIL-STD-810, OEM specifications, and internal quality requirements.
● Operate vibration test systems (single-axis and multi-axis, including 3-axis vibration) for ESS, acceptance, troubleshooting, and reliability screening.
● Execute vibration profiles, functional vibration tests, and ESS screening cycles as defined in test plans, work instructions, and engineering directives.
● Monitor test execution, system responses, and equipment behaviour during ESS activities to ensure safe and compliant operation.
● Ensure ESS activities are performed for screening, acceptance, and reliability assurance purposes and do not replace formal qualification testing unless specifically authorized.
Test Preparation & Setup
● Prepare ESS test setups including fixturing, mounting, cabling, accelerometer/sensor placement, and grounding to ensure safe, accurate, and repeatable testing.
● Verify test configurations, limits, safety interlocks, and instrumentation prior to test execution.
● Coordinate with engineering and technical teams to confirm test objectives, acceptance criteria, and screening parameters.
Data Monitoring & Analysis
● Record vibration and ESS test data, observations, anomalies, and results accurately and in real time.
● Identify abnormal responses, failures, or deviations during testing and promptly report findings to engineers and management.
● Support basic review of ESS and vibration data trends to assist compliance verification, root cause identification, and corrective action activities.
Equipment Care & Maintenance
● Ensure proper handling, operation, and basic care of ESS and vibration test equipment in accordance with manufacturer and internal guidelines.
● Maintain fixtures, sensors, cables, and associated ESS test accessories in serviceable condition.
● Report equipment malfunctions, calibration requirements, preventive maintenance needs, or safety concerns in a timely manner.
● Support calibration tracking, preventive maintenance activities, and basic equipment health checks in coordination with lab or maintenance teams.
Documentation & Reporting
● Prepare ESS test reports, logs, and supporting documentation in accordance with quality, regulatory, and customer/OEM requirements.
● Maintain ESS test records, job cards, and test certificates for audits, traceability, and customer reviews.
● Ensure all documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with approved procedures.
Safety & Compliance
● Follow all safety procedures related to vibration testing, ESS operations, ESD controls, and controlled-environment requirements where applicable.
● Ensure equipment under test is handled, mounted, and tested in compliance with approved safety, quality, and contamination-control standards.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
● Work closely with EO Technicians, Engineers, Quality, and MRO/Production teams during ESS execution, troubleshooting, and validation activities.
● Support continuous improvement initiatives related to ESS processes, test efficiency, reliability enhancement, and repeatability.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

● Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
● Minimum 3 years of experience in Environmental Stress Screening (ESS), vibration testing, or environmental testing activities.
● Hands-on experience operating vibration testing systems (single-axis and/or multi-axis).
● Ability to read and follow test procedures, engineering drawings, and technical instructions.
● Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and documentation discipline.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

● Basic understanding of EO systems, electronic assemblies, or precision electro-mechanical equipment.
