Hear from our team about what it’s like working at Capital One UK.
About the Role
The Manager International Client Services for Technical Quality of Acceptance, leads the operational delivery of our acceptance strategy across the United Kingdom, one of our key strategic markets. This is an operational payments-acceptance leadership role, focused on protecting the ability of cardholders to use the network reliably.
We are seeking a curious and proactive leader who does not stop at resolving isolated technical problems. Instead, this Manager will look for paths and patterns to identify larger network issues, preventing future breakages before they happen. Partnering closely with peers across Strategy, Product, Technology, and Operations, the Manager maintains a big-picture view to resolve complex issues across the end-to-end acceptance chain: merchant, POS, ecommerce or ATM environment, gateway, orchestrator, processor and acquirer.
A key focus of this role is to boost team performance and build a group of solid deliverers capable of scaling alongside business volumes. The team uses transaction and operational insights to identify emerging risks and leads proactive remediation to ensure consistent network stability.
What you’ll do.
- Manage, mentor and develop a team of operational professionals, including specialists across country acceptance, analytics, and referral investigation.
- Set clear goals, manage performance and capacity, and build deep technical and operational capability within the team.
- Prepare the team to scale up volumes by driving process standardization, implementing consistent performance practices, and leveraging Salesforce (SF) effectively.
- Drive the operational delivery of the Technical Quality of Acceptance strategy, translating global priorities into practical, market-specific technical plans across the UK.
- Leverage strong technical understanding to supervise the end-to-end diagnosis and remediation of acceptance breakages across the merchant, POS, ecommerce or ATM environment, gateway or orchestrator, processor and acquirer at the market level.
- Partner closely with cross-functional peers to view the bigger picture, coordinate specialist resources, and apply disciplined problem-management practices. This includes root-cause analysis, remediation ownership, progress tracking, recovery validation and lessons learned.
- Lead complex regional initiatives that strengthen technical acceptance resilience, improve monitoring and detection, remove recurring failure modes, and support technical acceptance stability. Apply disciplined project-management practices to define scope, milestones, dependencies, risks, governance, stakeholder communications and delivery plans.
- Build strong internal partnerships across Networks, Operations, Sales, Market Development, and Strategy Teams; understand the broader ecosystem to influence decisions and drive alignment across differing priorities.
- Build up and maintain clear KPIs, reporting, playbooks, escalation paths, operating controls and documentation for technical acceptance monitoring, investigation and remediation to prepare the team to scale.
- Represent the UK Technical Quality of Acceptance function in governance forums, launch-readiness reviews, roadmap discussions and updates, clearly communicating technical risk, dependencies, decisions and regional impact.
- Develop team and stakeholder capability through training and knowledge sharing on payment flows, technical acceptance failure modes, investigation methods, escalation and remediation practices.
- Engage externally when necessary to clarify technical issues, coordinate remediation or support strategic acceptance priorities; external client interaction is limited and purposeful, with approximately 15% travel.
What we’re looking for
- People Leadership experience; including direct management & talent development
- Experience within the financial services or payments industry especially within the merchant to acquirer domain.
- Strong executive presence and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical issues into clear, actionable insights to senior leadership.
- Promote a risk-aware culture; ensure efficient and effective risk and compliance management practices by adhering to required standards and policies.
- Self starter, creative solution-oriented mindset with solid teamwork skills; proven ability to drive results by working independently across functions
