About Us
KOSIGN is a recently-launched business within Kobalt Music Group, built to deliver premium global music publishing administration for today’s most independent and forward-thinking songwriters, producers, and artists. Developed by the team behind Kobalt’s industry-leading infrastructure - trusted by Max Martin, Phoebe Bridgers, Bon Iver, Paul McCartney, and more - KOSIGN brings transparency, flexibility, and control to the publishing process. We’ve built a modern platform tailored to artists and producers who want to stay in control and move fast.
The Opportunity
KOSIGN is looking for a VP, Commerce to lead writer acquisition and commercial partnerships. This is a high-impact role for a proven closer who can also build the machine: someone equally comfortable on the phone with a top writer's manager and designing a data-driven outreach operation that turns qualified leads into signed KOSIGN writers.
You will own KOSIGN's sales pipeline from lead generation through signing, serve as the lead commercial voice for the business, and bring KOSIGN to the wider industry, including management companies, law firms, and business management firms. You'll work hand in hand with Marketing, Client Services, and Client Onboarding to make sure every stage of the client journey supports the sales cycle.
This is a fast-paced role at the intersection of music, technology, and startups. You’ll be part of a lean, high-impact team building something new within one of the most innovative music companies in the world. It’s a rare opportunity to directly shape how the next generation of independent writers, producers, and artists manage their publishing.
The Role
What You’ll Do
- Lead Sales & Business Development: Own all sales and business development for KOSIGN, managing the Client Relations & Sales Manager and growing the team as the department scales. Accountable for departmental revenue goals and writer acquisition goals.
- Sales Operations: Build, scale, and optimize a data-driven, efficient sales and outreach operation with clear metrics and repeatable process.
- Build the Pipeline: Partner with Marketing, Kobalt’s in-house research team, and external partners to grow the volume and quality of qualified writer leads.
- Convert and Close: Oversee outreach and sales calls that convert qualified leads into accepted, signed KOSIGN writers, and personally lead conversations with high-priority writers and their managers to close key signings.
- Commercial Leadership: Serve as KOSIGN’s lead commercial point person, setting and negotiating terms for larger deals and structuring conditions that work for both sides.
- Sales Enablement: Identify the case studies, decks, and demos the team needs, and work with Marketing and Product to produce them.
- Partnerships & Referrals: Build and manage referral partnerships and other channel partnerships that generate new business.
- Industry Presence: Represent KOSIGN across the industry, building relationships with management companies, law firms, business management firms, and other key intermediaries.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate with Marketing, Client Services, and Client Onboarding, providing input so each function efficiently aligns with the sales cycle.
What You’ll Bring
- Experience in A&R, sales, or business development, ideally at a music publisher or record label
- A proven track record as a closer, with strong relationships across writers, managers, and their advisors
- Experience operationalizing, scaling, and managing a data-driven sales or outreach function
- Strong commercial judgment and deal-structuring experience
- A history of working closely with Marketing, Product, and client-facing teams
- Managerial experience leading and developing sales or client-facing staff
- Experience with CRM platforms and sales analytics
- Experience using AI for workflow optimization and automation
- Working knowledge of music publishing administration
- An existing network across artist management, music law, and business management
Key Behaviors for Success
- Closer Mentality: Knows how to move a conversation to a signature and is comfortable leading high-stakes calls.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Uses pipeline and conversion data, not instinct alone, to decide where to focus.
- Operational Rigor: Treats outreach, signing, and onboarding as one continuous process and removes friction between them.
- Commercial Judgment: Structures deals that grow KOSIGN while building long-term industry relationships.
What Success Looks Like
- By Month 3: Audit the lead-to-signing funnel, establish baseline metrics (lead volume, conversion rates, time to sign), and build relationships with key referral partners and intermediaries.
- By Month 6: Run an optimized, repeatable outreach operation that is tracking toward acquisition targets, with refreshed sales enablement materials and new referral partnerships in place.
- By Year 1: Deliver against departmental revenue and writer acquisition goals with a scalable sales engine and a clear plan for growing the department.
Interview Process
- Round 1: Recruiting Team
- Round 2: Head of KOSIGN
- Round 3: President, Kobalt
- Round 4: CEO, Kobalt
