Be a part of the Zingerman’s Deli Team! If you are looking for a flexible job where YOU create your own schedule, we'd love to have you on our team of Catering Event Bartenders. You are the front line of our catering events–tending bar and also assisting in serving at our events with the rest of our Catering team to deliver the Zingerman’s Experience at celebrations and gatherings in Ann Arbor and all over Southeast Michigan! This is a fast paced position that will involve constant customer interaction and requires the ability to be on your feet for extended periods. This is an occasional position that pays $18-$19/hour PLUS tips. You’ll also get a free meal on each shift, a staff discount at all Zingerman’s businesses and a very discounted bus pass.

Compensation: $18 to start with additional tips. $19 after completion of orientation (variable tips in addition to base pay)

- This is an hourly position with Zingerman’s Deli Catering and Events with variable hours throughout the year.
- Available shifts will be offered on a weekly basis, we have shifts year round, with more shifts available during December, late spring and early summer, as well as the fall.
- Most shifts are a minimum of 6 hours and up to 10 hours in length

Performance expectations - Essential Functions:

- Meet and exceed all expectations of serving and bartending private guest events
- Bar set up including tables, linens, ice, and glassware, dependent on the type of bar guest has selected. (beer and wine only, full bar, specialty cocktails, etc.)
- Greets guests and checks ID’s
- Provides accurate pours for cocktails and wine.
- Knows the preparation for classic cocktails.
- Can provide recommendations to guests for wine selections.
- Loads and unloads garnishes, equipment and beverages from catering vehicle
- Keeps workspace clean, organized and sanitized
- As time allows, assists with serving guests food or beverages at tables.
- Gives exceptional service to all customers at our events
- Responds quickly to requests from guests, co-workers, supervisors and managers while being accurate, polite and enthusiastic
- Maintains a professional image at all times through actions and appearance
- Conducts all business in accordance with Zingerman's Guiding Principles and Bottom Lines
- Is timely and accurate in completing all assigned responsibilities and training requirements

The Success Patterns for this position are:

- Catering or banquet Bartending experience is preferred
- Alcohol serving training such as TIPS or servesafe alcohol, etc. is preferred or can be provided upon hiring.
- Has a flexible schedule with an ability to sometimes work shifts on short notice
- Is able to follow directions in the moment, under time pressure, with a smile
- Has excellent communication skills
- Has the ability to handle multiple tasks at one time and stay focused
- Stays well organized with a strong attention to detail
- Has reliable transportation
- Has a reputation for giving great service to guests and co-workers
- Is passionate about great food and great service
- Is self-motivated, but is also comfortable asking for help
- Has strong interpersonal skills
- Is good at problem solving
- Works very effectively as part of a team
- Works with a sense of urgency when necessary

Physical Requirements:

- Can work long shifts that require standing/walking/bending throughout shift
- Can lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
