Job Description
Discover Impactful Work:
The Scientist I develops, qualifies, validates, and implements analytical methods for Quality Control (QC) use to support pharmaceutical development and manufacturing, primarily for small-molecule active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). The role applies critical thinking and scientific judgment to plan and execute experiments, troubleshoot analytical challenges, and progress complex method-related work independently, seeking guidance when appropriate.
The Scientist I follows applicable cGMP and laboratory safety requirements, maintains accurate and complete records, and communicates methods, data, and conclusions clearly. The role collaborates with colleagues and cross-functional teams to support successful method implementation and manufacturing needs.
Day in the Life:
- Follow current good manufacturing practices (cGMP), applicable safety requirements, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and laboratory procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including laboratory equipment, instruments, and testing materials.
- Develop, qualify, validate, and implement analytical methods for Quality Control (QC) use, primarily to support small-molecule active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and their manufacturing.
- Apply critical thinking and scientific judgment to plan and execute analytical work, troubleshoot method and instrument issues, and progress complex problems independently.
- Use analytical techniques and equipment appropriate to assigned work, which may include high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), mass spectrometry, and wet chemistry.
- Evaluate analytical data for accuracy, completeness, and scientific relevance. Promptly communicate unexpected results, method performance concerns, and other issues through established procedures.
- Document experimental work, data, observations, and conclusions accurately in required laboratory systems and records.
- Prepare or contribute technical information for analytical methods, qualification and validation protocols and reports, SOPs, and other technical documents.
- Communicate work progress, technical challenges, and results clearly to colleagues and project teams.
- Plan and manage assigned work across multiple projects, progressing tasks independently and seeking input or escalation when appropriate.
- Support analytical method implementation for QC use through technical documentation, knowledge transfer, and collaboration with relevant teams.
Keys to Success :
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry
- No prior laboratory experience is required. Laboratory experience is preferred. Experience in a GLP or GMP/cGMP environment is preferred.
- Experience with analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, GC, inductively coupled plasma (ICP), or mass spectrometry preferred
- New graduates are encouraged to apply.
Competencies
- Working knowledge of chemistry, analytical instrumentation, and qualitative and quantitative analysis.
- Familiarity with pharmaceutical quality and regulatory requirements, including GMP.
- Ability to follow technical procedures and interpret analytical results.
- Logical problem-solving skills and sound scientific judgment.
- Clear written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to contribute to technical documents such as SOPs, protocols, and reports.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to organize work and contribute to multiple projects.
Physical Requirements:
The position requires the ability to move about office and laboratory locations; stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch periodically and for extended periods; and lift, carry, or move items weighing approximately 10 to 35 pounds. The role also requires hand and finger dexterity, visual acuity for computer use and laboratory work, and the ability to sit, reach, talk, and hear for extended periods.
Personal protective equipment may include safety glasses, safety shoes, a laboratory coat, gloves, a safety apron, and an organic vapor respirator, as required by the work.
