What you will have an opportunity to do:
Position Summary
The Spa Hair Stylist / Makeup Artist provides salon hair services and professional makeup application for resort guests, including those preparing for weddings and special events. The stylist helps each guest choose a look that suits their preferences, hair texture, skin tone, and occasion, then coordinates the services so the guest is ready on time.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Welcome each guest and confirm the services booked. Discuss the desired look, review reference photos when available, and agree on the timing and price before beginning.
- Ask about allergies, product sensitivities, and recent hair treatments. Assess the condition of the hair, scalp, and skin to determine whether to adjust or postpone a service.
- Provide hair services offered on the spa menu, including shampooing, conditioning, blowouts, and styling. Create updos and other formal styles for special occasions. Perform cuts, color, or chemical services when assigned and within the scope of the stylist’s license and training.
- Select and apply makeup suited to the guest’s skin tone, undertone, skin type, and desired level of coverage. Check the shade match and invite feedback on the finish, particularly the eyes and lips, while there is time to make adjustments.
- Conduct bridal and special-event trials when scheduled. With the guest’s permission, document the agreed hairstyle, shades, and products so the look can be recreated on the event day. Coordinate appointment order and finish times with spa reception and fellow stylists.
- Protect the guest’s clothing and handle hair tools, hot equipment, and cosmetic products with care. Follow hand hygiene procedures, clean brushes between guests, disinfect reusable implements as appropriate, and use disposable applicators to prevent cross-contamination.
- Present the finished look in a mirror, including the back of the hairstyle. Make agreed adjustments and explain how to maintain the style or refresh the makeup throughout the day.
- Reset and restock the station between appointments. Maintain accurate service records, protect guest privacy, and notify spa reception promptly of delays or changes that affect the guest’s schedule.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency in styling a range of hair textures, lengths, and densities and in matching makeup shades across a range of skin tones and undertones.
- Knowledge of hair and cosmetic products, sanitation practices, and safe use of salon tools and equipment.
- Ability to translate a guest’s description or reference photo into a practical styling plan and explain what can be achieved within the appointment.
- Attention to detail, steady hand control, and the ability to coordinate hair and makeup services under event deadlines.
Qualifications and Preferred Experience
- Current California license authorizing the salon services assigned to the position.
- Demonstrated proficiency in both professional hairstyling and makeup application.
- Previous salon, spa, or resort experience preferred. Experience with bridal styling, makeup trials, and wedding parties is desirable.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
The Spa Hair Stylist / Makeup Artist must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Duties may involve extended periods of standing, reaching, and repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements. The work environment includes heated styling tools, hair products, cosmetics, and disinfectants. Schedules may include early mornings for weddings and events, as well as evenings, weekends, and holidays.
