Your Team Responsibilities
Data Intern – Portfolio Data & Analytics
Location: MSCI NYC office Team: Data & Operations Time commitment: 15–20 hours per week, in-person Duration: 6 months, semester-based
About the Role
MSCI’s Data organization sources, transforms, certifies and distributes the data behind MSCI’s indexes, analytics, sustainability and private-assets products. As a large, global function with a broad portfolio of initiatives, it depends on disciplined operations, reliable reporting and clear communication.
As an intern, you will work directly with the Data Transformation Officer. You’ll maintain accurate operational records, produce the reporting leadership relies on, and prepare materials that support decision-making, leadership meetings and townhalls. This is a business role within a data organization: the focus is on operations and analysis rather than building datasets; accuracy and attention to detail are still essential.
Your Key Ressponsibilities
- Reporting, analysis and automation: Produce recurring reporting for the Data Transformation Officer and Chief Data Officer, investigate discrepancies and inefficiencies, and automate manual steps using scripting and AI tools. Keep a single, current source of leadership information and priorities, and document recurring processes so they can be handed over easily.
- Townhalls, forums and communication: Coordinate townhalls and leadership forums, speaker preparation and follow-up actions, and develop the presentation materials used in them. Ensure consistent messaging across forums, meetings and internal publications.
- Decision-making materials: Draft briefing notes, options papers and executive summaries that set out the facts, trade-offs and recommendations, and support quick-turnaround analysis for senior leadership.
Your skills and experience that will help you excel
What We’re Looking For
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program in business, economics, finance, management, information systems or a related field
- Strong Excel and data modeling skills, with hands-on experience using AI tools
- Strong communication and writing skills, with the ability to translate complex input into clear, concise materials, interest in branding and corporate messaging
- Demonstrated organizational skills, reliable follow-through and the ability to manage competing priorities
- Ability to work in person at our headquarters for 15–20 hours per week
You don’t need to be in the final year of your studies. What matters most is strong organization, clear communication, curiosity when something doesn’t add up, and a commitment to high-quality work.
What You’ll Gain
- A close view of how a large, global data organization operates
- Direct mentorship from the Data Transformation Officer
- Exposure to senior leadership and the materials that support their decisions
- Experience across multiple areas of MSCI’s Data organization
