Senior Manager BHS Development

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Manager BHS Development to lead the modernization, governance and future capability of Hamad International Airport’s Baggage Handling System (BHS), Hold Baggage Screening System (HBSS), Passenger Loading Bridges (PLB), Pre-Conditioned Air (PCA), Ground Power Units (GPU) and related airport operational systems.

This strategic leadership role will drive capacity enhancement, system modernization, operational excellence, technology adoption and asset-performance improvement across critical airport infrastructure.

You will lead brownfield development initiatives, system upgrades, automation programmes and digital transformation projects within a complex, live airport environment, ensuring technology investments deliver measurable operational value.

The role will also establish and champion a BHS Centre of Excellence , strengthening technical governance, engineering capability, knowledge management and innovation across the department while supporting the airport’s future growth and capacity requirements.

Key Accountabilities

- Lead the development and modernization portfolio for BHS, HBSS, PLB, PCA, GPU and related operational systems.
- Develop long-term strategies for capacity growth, reliability improvement, asset lifecycle management and operational resilience.
- Lead brownfield projects involving system upgrades, modifications, expansions and technology integration within a live airport environment.
- Translate operational requirements into technical specifications, business cases, project scopes and acceptance criteria.
- Drive operational optimization, continuous improvement and engineering governance initiatives.
- Lead capacity planning, simulation, forecasting and scenario-modelling activities.
- Drive the adoption of automation, artificial intelligence, predictive maintenance, advanced analytics and other emerging technologies.
- Improve system and asset performance through data-driven engineering, reliability and lifecycle-management strategies.
- Establish and champion a BHS Centre of Excellence, strengthening internal technical capability, engineering standards and knowledge management.
- Ensure operational safety, cybersecurity, resilience and regulatory requirements are incorporated throughout development activities.
- Coordinate design reviews, testing, commissioning, operational readiness, handover and final acceptance.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, airlines, contractors, original equipment manufacturers and industry partners to deliver successful outcomes.
- Lead, coach and develop technical teams while supporting succession planning and capability development.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Systems Engineering, Aviation Management, Airport Operations, Project Management or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in airport systems, infrastructure development or complex operational environments.
- Demonstrated experience delivering brownfield airport projects involving BHS, HBSS or comparable operational systems.
- Strong understanding of engineering governance, project delivery, operational readiness, asset management and stakeholder management.
- Experience in system optimization, automation, technology adoption and continuous improvement.
- Strong understanding of design assurance, testing, commissioning and management of change.
- Excellent understanding of safety, risk management and change-management principles.
- Proven leadership experience, including setting strategic direction, developing teams and strengthening technical capability.
- Strong English communication, presentation and report-writing skills.

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous:

- Baggage Handling Systems (BHS) and Hold Baggage Screening Systems (HBSS).
- Passenger Loading Bridges (PLB), Pre-Conditioned Air (PCA), Ground Power Units (GPU) and related aircraft-stand technologies.
- Asset management, reliability engineering and lifecycle planning.
- Automation, artificial intelligence, robotics, predictive maintenance, digital twins or advanced analytics.
- Information Technology and Operational Technology integration and cybersecurity within operational environments.
- Capacity forecasting, simulation, scenario modelling and data-driven planning.
- Major airport modernization, expansion or transformation programmes.
- Relevant professional certification in project management, asset management, reliability engineering, systems engineering, operational readiness, Lean Six Sigma, safety or change management.
