THIS POSITION IS CONTIGENT UPON CONTRACT AWARD
SUMMARY
This position is responsible for providing electrical expertise to other electricians and ensuring proper operations of electrical distribution system.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical distribution and transmission systems, including conduits, cables, wires and related equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, and switches.
- Inspects and tests power lines and auxiliary equipment to locate and identify problems, using reading and testing instruments.
- Provides assistance to other electricians regarding difficult or abnormal problems.
- Complies with the latest edition of the codes of the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), Bureau of Standards, and the American Safety Code. Electrical work shall conform to the requirements of the National Electric Code (NFPA No, 70- Most Recent Edition) where applicable.
- Responds to all electrical emergencies and restore power in the most expeditious manner.
- Installs or repairs a variety of electrical equipment such as generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit systems or other transmission equipment.
- Works from blueprints, drawings, layouts or other specifications; performs installation, maintenance and/or repairs.
- Locates and diagnoses trouble in the electrical equipment.
- Uses a variety of electricians hand tools and measuring and testing instruments to perform duties.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Journeyman Lineman License, issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), required to perform line construction work, including distribution systems, and installation/maintenance/repair of high-voltage cable (systems in excess of 2,400 volts)
- Eligibility requires one of the following:
- Completion of at least 7,000 hours of training in a U.S. Department of Labor–approved apprenticeship program, or
- 3½ years of documented experience as a journeyman lineman with an electric utility, electric cooperative, municipally owned utility, or licensed electrical contractor in Texas
- Must pass the Texas Journeyman Lineman License Examination (administered by PSI)
- Completed TDLR application, including Experience Verification Form and Employment History documentation.
- A valid Commercial Drivers License and ability to maintain military gate pass access are required.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Must have the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, managers and staff members. Ability to write reports. Must have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, fellow employees and customers.
REASONING ABILITY
Must be able to read and interpret various information to ensure procedures are followed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may occasionally be required to lift more than 75 pounds. The employee must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. Work may be conducted in extremes of heat and cold if performing work outside.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work environment will require on-call rotation. The employee may be exposed to noise, dirt, dust, grease, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold, heat, and inclement weather. The work may require the use of protective devices, such as masks, goggles, and/or gloves.
