Job Summary:
An APA Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting students and other passengers to and from school and school-sponsored events. Bus Drivers work morning and afternoon shifts and are responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and mechanically sound bus while providing a positive experience for students.

Duties & Responsibilities:
The position includes but is not limited to the following list of representative duties:

- Transport students and other passengers to and from school and school-sponsored events.

- Obey all traffic laws and APA transportation policies to ensure students arrive at their destinations safely.

- Maintain a clean and mechanically sound bus at all times.

- Ensure the safety of students when entering and leaving the bus.

- Assist students with getting on and off the bus as needed.

- Engage positively and appropriately with students as they enter and exit the bus.

- Complete assigned routes safely and on time.

- Respond appropriately and calmly during emergency situations.

- Report any safety, vehicle, or route concerns to the appropriate supervisor.

- Other duties as assigned.

Schedule:

- Monday-Friday; Morning shift: 6:00 am - 8:30 am, Afternoon shift: 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm

- Up to 25 hours per week

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Must possess emotional maturity and demonstrate respect for children and adults.

- Willingness to cooperate with the aims of the program.

- Flexibility, patience, and good personal hygiene.

- Good verbal communication skills.

- Ability to visually observe and monitor students effectively.

- Ability to fulfill responsibilities under pressure, including during emergency situations.

- Proven work experience as a School Bus Driver or similar role.

- Clean driving record with no at-fault accidents or traffic citations within the last five years.

- Two or more years of experience working with children is preferred.

- Ability to carry out assigned routes safely and on time.

- Ability to work around the risk of exposure to blood, bodily fluids, tissues, and communicable diseases.

- Ability to safely travel on main highways, side streets, and rural roads while transporting children.

- Ability to lift up to 55 pounds multiple times throughout the day.

- Ability to climb into the bus and frequently walk, bend, kneel, and squat.

Education and Experience:

- Must possess a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL)

- Must be at least 18 years of age.

- Must be able to successfully complete a background check as required by APA.

- Alternative qualifications may be considered if sufficient to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
