Job Summary: The English Teacher is responsible for designing and implementing engaging English/Language Arts curriculum for secondary students. The position provides instruction in reading, writing, literature, grammar, composition, and related English language skills while monitoring student progress and fostering a positive classroom environment. The teacher works collaboratively with students, parents, faculty, staff, and administration to support academic achievement and student success.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The position includes but is not limited to the following list of representative duties:
- Plan and develop English/Language Arts courses and curriculum aligned with state standards and school expectations.
- Design and deliver engaging lessons in literature, reading, writing, grammar, composition, vocabulary, and communication skills.
- Use a variety of instructional methods, materials, technology, and assessments to meet diverse student learning needs.
- Assign, evaluate, and provide feedback on student writing, projects, assessments, and other coursework.
- Monitor student academic progress and provide appropriate intervention, enrichment, and support.
- Teach students effective reading, writing, research, critical thinking, and communication skills.
- Encourage meaningful discussion and student engagement with literature and written texts.
- Maintain a positive, structured, and supportive classroom environment.
- Discuss student academic difficulties and behavioral concerns with students and appropriate school personnel.
- Communicate effectively with parents, faculty, staff, and administration regarding student progress and concerns.
- Develop positive relationships with students and support their academic and personal growth.
- Supervise students in classrooms, halls, study areas, lunch areas, school grounds, field trips, and other assigned activities.
- Maintain accurate student attendance, grades, progress records, and other required documentation.
- Administer and assist with standardized testing as assigned.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and other school activities.
- Stay current with effective English/Language Arts instructional practices, curriculum resources, and educational research.
- Sponsor or support student activities, clubs, or other extracurricular programs as assigned.
- Follow all school policies and procedures related to student safety, security, and supervision.
- Other duties as assigned.
Schedule:
- Typical schedule is M, T, F: 7:45 am - 4:15 pm MST, W, Th: 7:45 am - 4:30 pm MST (hours may vary based on campus)

- Knowledge of English/Language Arts content, instructional strategies, and current teaching best practices
- Knowledge of adolescent development and the academic needs of secondary students
- Ability to design and deliver effective lessons in reading, writing, literature, grammar, and composition
- Ability to teach students critical thinking, communication, research, and written expression skills
- Ability to use varied instructional methods to meet different learning needs
- Strong classroom management and student engagement skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Professional and effective when working with students, parents, and colleagues
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office and other instructional technology
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree required
- Appropriate state accreditation/teaching license required
- Ongoing professional courses and in-service training as required
- Prior teaching experience highly preferred
- Specialized training in secondary English/Language Arts preferred
- Masters degree highly preferred
