About this role
Volunteer tutors are needed to support adults in our GED Preparation and English Language Learner programs. Tutors work in conjunction with classroom instructors to provide individualized and small-group support in reading, math, English language proficiency, and basic computer skills in a culturally diverse adult learning community in southwest Detroit. Patience and an understanding of the dynamics of working with adult learners with low academic skills are essential.
Qualifications
- Some college preferred
- Interest in helping adults to learn
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to function effectively as part of a professional team
- Basic computer skills a plus, including Microsoft Office and Google Drive
- Dedicated to maintaining a positive learning environment in nontraditional educational setting
