### What to Expect
• The Vehicle Dynamics Engineer – Steering is responsible for supporting the definition, development, tuning and validation of steering system performance and steering-related vehicle dynamics attributes across McLaren vehicle programs. • The role involves simulation, modelling, testing, data analysis, vehicle tuning and objective/subjective assessment activities to ensure steering system performance meets vehicle targets and delivers the desired McLaren driving experience. • Working within the Vehicle Dynamics team, the Engineer will collaborate with specialists across Chassis, Controls, Software, Test & Development and Vehicle Engineering to support the delivery of steering performance from concept through to production sign-off. • A strong interest and foundation in steering systems, electric power steering (EPS) technologies and vehicle dynamics is highly desirable.
### What You'll Do
• Support the development and delivery of Steering attributes for current and future vehicle programs. • Contribute to the definition and refinement of steering performance targets in line with vehicle requirements. • Assist in the creation, maintenance and execution of steering attribute development plans. • Carry out vehicle modelling and simulation activities to assess steering system performance and support target achievement. • Support steering system specification development, working closely with hardware, controls and software teams. • Plan and execute vehicle testing activities to tune and calibrate steering-related systems. • Analyze test data and provide recommendations for steering system improvements. • Conduct objective and subjective vehicle evaluations on road, track and proving ground environments. • Support the investigation, root cause analysis and resolution of steering-related issues identified during vehicle development. • Validate steering performance against defined vehicle attribute targets. • Track and report progress of assigned activities to project and technical leads. • Support track testing and development activities for steering and wider vehicle dynamics systems. • Collaborate across multiple departments to ensure successful integration of steering-related hardware and software functions. • Contribute to the continuous improvement of steering development processes, tools and methodologies.
### What You'll Bring
• Experience in automotive vehicle dynamics, chassis systems or steering system development. • Good understanding of vehicle dynamics fundamentals and their influence on vehicle performance and customer perception. • Knowledge of steering systems including Electric Power Steering (EPS) and their interactions with chassis and control systems. • Understanding of suspension, tyres and broader chassis systems. • Experience with vehicle testing, data analysis and system evaluation. • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills. • Competent user of MATLAB and Simulink. • Experience with vehicle dynamics simulation tools is desirable. • Familiarity with vehicle data analysis and data acquisition tools. • Basic understanding of control systems and calibration processes. • Knowledge of vehicle validation and verification activities. • Familiarity with data acquisition and analysis tools. • Understanding of the objective vehicle testing and subjective vehicle evaluation techniques. • High-performance driving experience or advanced driving qualification would be advantageous. • Experience with model-based development methodologies would be beneficial.
Education • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related discipline. • Postgraduate qualification in Vehicle Dynamics, Automotive Engineering or Control Systems is advantageous. • High competency in spoken and written English.
