Job Title: Electro-Mechanical Design Drafter Job Description
This Electro-Mechanical Design Drafter role supports a growing engineering and manufacturing organization by developing and maintaining comprehensive technical documentation and production drawing packages for complex products and assemblies. You will work at the intersection of electrical and mechanical design, creating detailed models, drawings, and manufacturing documentation that enable accurate, efficient production and product development. This position suits a detail-oriented professional who enjoys collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and external partners in a highly regulated, quality-focused environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain engineering and manufacturing drawings based on design concepts, prototypes, sketches, and engineering direction.
- Create, update, and manage manufacturing work instructions and process documentation to support production activities.
- Generate and revise Bills of Materials (BOMs), source control documentation, and related technical records for complex assemblies.
- Prepare complete design packages for electrical, mechanical, and electromechanical assemblies, including supporting documentation and 3D models.
- Produce detailed drawing packages consisting of assembly drawings, subassembly drawings, schematics, part lists, product control drawings, manufacturing specifications, and related documentation.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, customers, and external partners to resolve technical issues and ensure design accuracy.
- Identify and correct drawing discrepancies and documentation concerns throughout the product lifecycle.
- Ensure designs and documentation comply with applicable customer specifications, quality requirements, industry standards, and regulatory guidelines.
- Maintain confidentiality and protect proprietary technical information in all drafting and documentation activities.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within engineering and manufacturing processes by refining documentation and drawing practices.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned to support product development and production needs.
Essential Skills
- Approximately 5–10 years of experience in electro-mechanical, electronic, or mechanical drafting environments.
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks for mechanical and electromechanical drafting, including creating detailed assemblies, models, and complete drawing packages for manufacturing and production.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for development and revision of electrical and electronic drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Solid knowledge of engineering documentation practices, including revision control, configuration management, and structured production packages.
- Experience generating manufacturing documentation, work instructions, Bills of Materials (BOMs), source control drawings, and production documentation.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications for complex electro-mechanical systems.
- Understanding of military, aerospace, or industry drafting standards and how they apply to technical documentation.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with internal teams, suppliers, customers, and external partners.
- Experience working within highly regulated manufacturing environments and following strict documentation and quality procedures.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Technical training, vocational education, or post-secondary coursework in drafting, engineering technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Familiarity with PCB design software such as Altium or comparable tools is beneficial.
- Knowledge of quality management systems and compliance standards, including AS9100, is a plus.
- Familiarity with ITAR and related regulatory requirements is preferred.
- Experience supporting aerospace, defense, or other highly technical manufacturing industries is advantageous.
- Previous exposure to test, instrumentation, or mission-critical hardware environments is beneficial.
- Ability to travel occasionally as required.
Work Environment
The role is based in an engineering and manufacturing setting that focuses on complex electro-mechanical and electronic products, often for highly technical and regulated industries such as aerospace and defense. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, and quality, using tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, PCB design software, and structured documentation systems to produce precise technical packages. The environment emphasizes adherence to quality standards and regulatory requirements, including AS9100 and ITAR, and supports continuous improvement in both engineering and manufacturing processes. Work is primarily office and lab-based within a production-oriented facility, with occasional travel to support projects or collaboration with external partners. Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Los Angeles, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $37.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
