CARPENTER I

Ideal Candidate: The Carpenter I is a hands-on, skilled role responsible for constructing custom crates, pallets, and packaging solutions for industrial and commercial shipments. This position requires experience in carpentry or crate building, the ability to interpret specifications and drawings, and proficiency with hand and power tools. The role emphasizes quality, safety, precision, and collaboration in a fast-paced warehouse environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Build and assemble custom crates, pallets, and packaging materials according to specifications and design requirements, both onsite and offsite.

- Select appropriate materials (e.g., lumber, plywood, engineered wood products) based on project requirements and industry standards.

- Measure, cut, and shape materials accurately using hand and power tools to ensure proper fit and dimensions.

- Assemble components using appropriate fastening techniques, including nailing, stapling, screwing, and gluing, to ensure structural integrity and durability.

- Inspect finished products to verify compliance with design specifications and quality standards prior to shipment.

- Safely operate pallet jacks and forklifts up to 12k to transport materials, crates, and finished products in support of daily operations, after obtaining required certification.

- Collaborate with warehouse team members to coordinate production schedules and requirements.

- Adhere to all safety protocols while operating tools and equipment; maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

- Perform other related duties as assigned to support warehouse operations.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:

- 1–2 years of hands-on experience building crates, pallets, or custom packaging, or in a related carpentry, woodworking, manufacturing, or construction environment.

- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

- Working knowledge of materials such as lumber, plywood, and engineered wood products, including proper selection based on load, size, and shipping requirements.

- Proficiency using hand and power tools, including saws, drills, nail guns, staplers, measuring tools, and related equipment.

- Ability to accurately measure, cut, and assemble materials according to specifications, drawings, or written instructions.

- Basic ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, or build specifications.

- Working knowledge of pallet jack and forklift operations; must be able to operate or oversee safe operation of equipment up to 12k and maintain required certification as needed.

- Strong attention to detail and quality, with the ability to inspect finished work for accuracy, durability, and compliance prior to shipment.

- Ability to work collaboratively with warehouse staff, logistics personnel, and cross-functional teams to meet production schedules.

- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred or required, based on operational needs.

- Must successfully complete and maintain required IATA, IMDG, and 49 CFR training, including periodic recertification, with a minimum passing score of 90%.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND SAFETY EXPECTATIONS

- Work is performed primarily in a warehouse environment, with occasional work in outdoor or semi-covered areas depending on operational needs.

- Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas, including build stations, tool storage, materials, and common areas, in accordance with company housekeeping standards.

- Must consistently follow written work instructions, SOPs, and safety protocols, particularly those related to carpentry, tool operation, and material handling.

- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as mandated by task, equipment, or work environment, including but not limited to safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe footwear.

- Safely operate and handle hand tools, power tools, pallet jacks, and forklifts in accordance with training and company policies.

- Expected to identify and promptly report any safety hazards, equipment concerns, or quality issues to supervision or the QHSE department.

- Must be able to navigate warehouse floors, staging areas, and material storage locations safely and efficiently.

- Regular exposure to dust, noise, vibration, temperature changes, and physical labor conditions typical of carpentry and warehouse operations.

- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, production-driven environment while maintaining safety, quality, and accuracy standards.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

- Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and climb stairs or ladders throughout the workday.

- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50–75 lbs. unassisted when handling lumber, crates, pallets, and materials.

- Regular use of hands and arms to measure, cut, assemble, fasten, and position materials, including repetitive use of hand and power tools.

- Visual acuity sufficient to read measurements, markings, drawings, labels, and inspect finished products for quality and accuracy.

- Adequate hearing to receive instructions, communicate with team members, and respond to alarms or warning signals in a noisy environment.

- Clear verbal communication skills for in-person coordination with supervisors and team members.

- Ability to sustain physical activity for extended periods and adapt to varying physical demands based on production requirements.

- Ability to occasionally use basic computer or scanning equipment for job tracking, documentation, or inventory purposes.

WORK SCHEDULE

- Standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility for occasional Saturdays, overtime, or adjusted hours as needed to meet operational demands.
