JOB SUMMARY

The Part-Time Associate Degree Nursing Faculty member provides instruction and supervision of nursing students in clinical settings and/or the nursing skills and simulation laboratory. Classroom instruction may also be assigned based on the faculty members education, credentials, professional nursing experience, and areas of clinical expertise.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Collaborate with the Department Chair and program faculty to support achievement of course and program goals.

- In team-taught courses, consult with the course instructor prior to the start of the semester to review and clarify course expectations and assignments.

- Select appropriate patient assignments for students based on course and clinical learning objectives.

- Apply effective principles of teaching, learning, and evaluation in the clinical, laboratory, and/or classroom setting.

- Collaborate with faculty in evaluating student achievement of course and program learning outcomes.

- Work cooperatively with clinical site staff to provide safe, effective, and meaningful student learning experiences.

- As assigned, facilitate student learning in the simulation laboratory using high-fidelity simulation equipment and manikins.

- Teach, supervise, and evaluate nursing skills and student performance.

- Assist with preparation, organization, and maintenance of the nursing skills and simulation laboratory.

- Demonstrate professionalism, dependability, and accountability, including regular attendance, preparedness, and timely completion of assigned responsibilities.

- Complete and maintain required documentation related to the instructional role as directed by the Department Chair and course instructor.

- Attend faculty meetings and other program-related meetings as requested.

- Maintain professional competence through ongoing learning and professional development.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

- Current, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Texas.

- Minimum of three years of varied professional nursing experience as a Registered Nurse.

- Demonstrated current clinical competence and nursing skills.

- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining current knowledge, clinical expertise, and safe nursing practice in assigned areas of teaching responsibility.

- Demonstrated experience providing education or instruction to students, healthcare staff, patients, and/or families.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in nursing

- Experience teaching clinical nursing courses and/or precepting nursing students in a clinical setting

- Experience teaching in a nursing simulation laboratory or simulated clinical environment

- Experience teaching in a classroom environment

WORK ENVIRONMENT

- Typical office

- Business Hours

- M-Th 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. F 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

summer M-Th 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 pm

- Periodic evening and weekend hours during peak periods (e.g., open enrollment, payroll)

- Occasional travel (less than 10%)

Physical Demands:

- Ability to lift, move, and position equipment and supplies used in nursing instruction, skills laboratory, and simulation activities.

- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout clinical and laboratory settings to effectively supervise and assist students.

- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.

- Sufficient manual dexterity to demonstrate, perform, and evaluate nursing skills and use instructional and clinical equipment.

- Ability to travel to assigned clinical sites as required.

Salary Range: $36.75 - $52.50 per hour
