Yard Hostler

Position Overview

Pridestaff is seeking a skilled and dependable Yard Hostler to join our logistics and warehousing team in Memphis, TN. In this role, you will be responsible for moving, spotting, and organizing semi-trailers throughout our warehouse facilities. The ideal candidate must be proficient in operating a day cab truck equipped with a manual 12-speed transmission to safely and efficiently move trailers from dock door to dock door and throughout the yard.

Key Responsibilities

Move 53' semi-trailers, container chassis, and dry vans safely between dock doors, staging areas, and yard spots.

Operate a day cab tractor featuring a manual 12-speed transmission in tight spaces and around warehouse traffic.

Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections on yard equipment and report any safety issues or maintenance needs immediately.

Perform backing, coupling, and uncoupling of trailers efficiently and safely throughout the shift.

Coordinate closely with warehouse supervisors, dock workers, and dispatch to prioritize door assignments and maintain smooth freight flow.

Inspect trailers for damage, verify seal numbers, and ensure trailer doors are properly secured before repositioning.

Maintain an accurate log of trailer movements, dock assignments, and yard inventory.

Adhere strictly to company safety policies, yard speed limits, and OSHA/DOT guidelines.

Qualifications & Requirements

Transmission Experience: Demonstrated proficiency operating a manual transmission (specifically a manual 12-speed heavy-duty truck).

Driving Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of yard hostling, yard spotting, or tractor-trailer driving experience preferred.

License: Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL Class A preferred, or relevant yard hostler experience with clean driving record).

Backing Skills: Strong spatial awareness and proven ability to back 53' trailers into tight dock doors safely and accurately.

Physical Ability: Able to climb in and out of the cab repeatedly, crank trailer landing gear, and lift up to 50 lbs as needed.

Availability: Ability to work flexible shifts, weekends, or overtime as warehouse operational demands dictate.

Compensation / Pay Rate (Up to): $20.00 - $20.00 Per Hour
