POSITION SUMMARY:
World Relief is seeking a Media Relations Coordinator. This role is responsible for supporting the Director of Media Relations by facilitating World Relief’s earned media presence, supporting external-facing writing projects and conducting relevant research and outreach. They help obtain strategic exposure for World Relief and its programs through informing and responding to the media.
Primary responsibilities include staying attuned to organizational milestones, developing pitches, regularly interacting with members of the press, coordinating interviews and building a steady cadence of media placements. The Media Relations Coordinator is expected to remain updated on current events and news as they identify unique opportunities for World Relief within the news cycle.
Work Location: Remote, preference for proximity to Washington, D.C
Travel: 5-10%
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Communications and Content Development
- Support implementation of communications and media outreach plans that advance World Relief’s policy and organizational priorities.
- Draft and edit communications materials including press releases, talking points, media advisories, statements, spokesperson briefing materials, op-eds and reports.
- Collaborate with policy and technical experts to translate complex information into clear communications products.
- Collaborate with local and international offices to identify, communicate and disseminate program-related stories.
- Monitor policy developments and news trends and share opportunities with Advocacy team members.
- Assist with coordinating communications activities across internal stakeholders and external partners.
Media Relations
- Support day-to-day media activities, including developing pitches, coordinating and scheduling interviews and maintaining press lists.
- Help establish and maintain relationships with journalists, producers and media contacts across local, state and national outlets, as well as other influential content creators.
- Assist in preparing spokespeople for media opportunities by gathering background materials and coordinating logistics.
Media Monitoring and Reporting
- Monitor media coverage related to organizational priorities and policy issues.
- Produce regular media coverage summaries and reports.
- Maintain media tracking systems.
- Compile basic metrics and reporting to support evaluation of media outreach efforts.
- Track communications deliverables and help coordinate workflows across the Earned Media team.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Mature and personal Christian faith
- Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
- Desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities
- Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs , Statement of Faith , Christian Identity and National Association of Evangelicals' For the Health of The Nation document
- Undergraduate degree or relevant experience in public relations, communications, marketing, journalism or a related field
- 2+ years of relevant earned media experience
- Possesses strong research, interpersonal, writing and editing skills
- Professional proficiency in MS Office suite and competency with media monitoring tools
- Adapts to change, meets deadlines and can manage competing priorities
- Ability and eagerness to engage across the political spectrum and to champion the organization’s nonpartisan approach to policy advocacy
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Located in Washington, D.C. preferred
- Experience managing earned media at a public relations agency, in political or advocacy campaigns or on Capitol Hill
- GOTV, fundraising or sales experience
- Familiarity with policy, advocacy or public affairs contexts
- Professional proficiency in spoken and written Spanish
- Persistent; seeks to push through challenges and ensure excellence in deliverables
