Job Title: Structural Engineer Job Description
This Structural Engineer role focuses on performing detailed structural calculations and analysis for curtain wall, storefront, window wall, punched openings, entrances, and related architectural glazing systems. You will evaluate aluminum framing components and connection systems, interpret construction documents, and prepare complete structural calculation packages that support safe, efficient, and code-compliant building-envelope designs. The position offers the opportunity to work fully remotely while collaborating closely with internal teams and clients across the United States.
Responsibilities
- Perform structural calculations for curtain wall, storefront, window wall, punched openings, entrances, and related glazing and facade systems.
- Analyze aluminum framing components, including mullions, horizontals, jambs, head and sill members, and reinforcing members, to ensure structural adequacy and compliance with project requirements.
- Complete checks for framing, anchors, connections, embeds, fasteners, clips, and brackets, verifying that all components meet applicable design criteria.
- Determine and apply project-specific wind, seismic, dead, live, and other applicable design loads in accordance with relevant codes and standards.
- Evaluate thermal movement, live-load movement, seismic movement, and overall building movement requirements, and incorporate these considerations into system design and detailing.
- Review architectural, structural, and shop drawings to clearly understand project scope, engineering requirements, and coordination needs.
- Prepare complete, accurate, and well-organized structural calculation packages that can be easily reviewed and referenced by project stakeholders.
- Develop and review structural models, including RISA 3D models when appropriate, to analyze complex framing and connection conditions.
- Coordinate engineering requirements, design changes, and drawing revisions with drafting staff and internal project teams to maintain alignment and accuracy.
- Communicate proactively with clients regarding engineering questions, design assumptions, and project requirements, providing clear and professional guidance.
- Manage multiple assigned projects simultaneously while maintaining schedules, meeting deadlines, and supporting project delivery for small to mid-sized projects.
- Identify unusual or nonstandard conditions in glazing and framing systems and collaborate with senior engineering staff to develop practical, code-compliant solutions.
- Monitor project progress and assist with schedule and budget considerations to help ensure successful project outcomes in a remote work setting.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Architectural, Mechanical, or another applicable engineering discipline from an ABET/EAC-accredited program, or equivalent qualifications.
- Approximately 5 to 9 years of relevant engineering experience in structural design or closely related fields.
- Direct experience performing structural calculations for curtain wall, fenestration, glazing, facade, or closely related building-envelope systems.
- Working knowledge of aluminum framing systems and typical curtain wall or fenestration components, including mullions, horizontals, jambs, head and sill members, and reinforcing members.
- Experience evaluating anchors, fasteners, clips, brackets, embeds, and similar connection systems for structural performance and code compliance.
- Working knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC) and ASCE 7 as applied to components and cladding, including wind and seismic load provisions.
- Ability to interpret architectural and structural construction documents and coordinate engineering requirements with shop drawings and drafting outputs.
- Understanding of wind loading, seismic requirements, thermal movement, live-load movement, and building movement as they relate to curtain wall and glazing systems.
- Experience using structural-analysis software and engineering calculation tools, including the ability to develop and review models such as RISA 3D when appropriate.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain engineering concepts clearly to internal teams and clients.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively in a remote work environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Background in structural engineering for architectural glazing, curtain wall, storefront, window wall, and other fenestration systems.
- Experience supporting shop drawing development and coordination for facade and building-envelope projects.
- Familiarity with industry practices in the fenestration and facade engineering sectors.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote setting while maintaining high standards of accuracy, organization, and accountability.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to preparing structural calculation packages and reviewing drawings.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work closely with drafting staff, internal project teams, and senior engineering personnel.
Work Environment
This position operates in a fully remote work environment, allowing you to contribute from any suitable location while supporting projects throughout the United States. You will work primarily with digital tools, including structural-analysis software such as RISA 3D, engineering calculation platforms, and electronic architectural, structural, and shop drawings. Collaboration occurs through online communication channels with drafting staff, internal project teams, and clients. The role focuses on curtain wall, storefront, window wall, and other architectural glazing and fenestration systems, within a company that brings more than 40 years of experience serving the fenestration industry. Working hours are structured to support project schedules and deadlines, and the remote setting emphasizes professional communication, self-management, and a detail-oriented approach to delivering high-quality engineering work.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Austin, TX.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $95000.00 - $120000.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
