Project Manager

Job Title: Project Manager Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Job Description This onsite Project Manager role in the Phoenix, AZ (Buckeye) area focuses on leading transmission and distribution (T&D) and power utility projects within a growing distribution team. You will oversee the planning, design, and construction of utility projects, working closely with a multidisciplinary team to secure, manage, and successfully deliver work for new and existing clients. The position offers a strong culture of internal promotion, mentorship, and structured career development, with clear pathways into sr design and project leadership roles. Responsibilities

- Lead and manage the full lifecycle of transmission and distribution projects, including planning, design, and construction activities.
- Manage the scope, schedule, and budget of individual projects to ensure delivery within agreed parameters.
- Work with a matrixed team to assign tasks, coordinate deliverables, and ensure on-time completion of project milestones.
- Provide clear direction and communicate next steps to internal and external project stakeholders.
- Monitor project performance using key performance indicators (KPIs), including critical path, issues management, and change management metrics.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Continuously build and maintain a network of third-party consultants and vendors to support project execution.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of client and industry standards related to utility design and construction and ensure compliance across projects.
- Negotiate solutions to client concerns, project overages, and scope changes to maintain strong client relationships and project profitability.
- Collaborate with engineering, safety, quality, procurement, right-of-way, scheduling, environmental planning, permitting, and land management teams to deliver integrated project solutions.
- Support and contribute to QA/QC processes to ensure high-quality design and construction deliverables.
- Use project management tools and software (such as MS Office, Primavera P6, and SmartSheet) to plan, track, and report on project progress.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts to enhance transmission system capacity, mitigate fire and storm risks, and improve reliability of electrical service for utility customers.

Essential Skills

- B.S. degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Science, or a relevant technical field, or equivalent training and experience.
- 10+ years of project management experience related to electrical distribution projects; experience with transmission, substations, or other utility projects is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in public utility design and construction, including familiarity with permitting and regulatory requirements.
- Strong proficiency in MS Office for documentation, reporting, and communication.
- Experience using Primavera P6 and SmartSheet or closely related project scheduling and management tools.
- Proven ability to manage scope, schedule, and budget for multiple concurrent projects.
- Experience working with matrixed teams and coordinating tasks and deliverables across disciplines.
- Ability to monitor KPIs, critical path, issues management, and change management to keep projects on track.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, serving as a primary point of contact for internal and external project participants.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate solutions to client concerns and manage project overages effectively.
- Working knowledge of client and industry standards related to electrical utility design and construction.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is a plus.
- Experience with AutoCAD, including design, drafting, electrical design, and CAD workflows.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD attributes and the ability to develop new designs from the ground up using existing plans and base mapping is highly valued within the broader team.
- At least 6 months of experience working with electrical systems for utilities or telecom is beneficial for collaborating with design staff.
- Experience with RFI management, project coordination, and change order processes.
- experience working alongside QA/QC professionals, designers, and engineering teams within a transmission and distribution operations environment.
- Interest in mentoring and supporting designers who may progress into sr design and project management roles over time.
- Ability to thrive in a multidisciplinary environment that includes engineering, safety, quality, procurement, right-of-way, scheduling, environmental planning, permitting, and land management.

Work Environment This role is based in the Phoenix, AZ (Buckeye) area with a hybrid work arrangement. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, with flexibility to work eight-hour days between 6:00 AM and 5:00 PM, allowing for flexible start and end times. The position typically requires four days in the office and one day remote per week. You will work within a structured transmission and distribution operations team that includes a director of T&D operations, QA/QC management, project management, and multiple designers. The environment emphasizes collaboration, integrated service delivery, and safe project execution, leveraging tools such as MS Office, Primavera P6, SmartSheet, and AutoCAD. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $75.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
