General Description and Classification Standards:

Coordinates key communication functions for the assigned department. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: working closely with the Communications Manager to develop and execute processes and projects in support of the communications and marketing team; demonstrating superior client service, interpersonal communications, friendly disposition, and strong written and communication skills. This role helps to effectively convey the department's mission and key strategies with members of the community, partner organizations, and other key organizations.

Supervision Received:

Community Affairs Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the Communications Manager. Must be able to work well both independently as well as collaboratively with a team.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience –

- Bachelor's degree in public relations/communications or related field desired or comparable experience

- 1-3 years of experience in event coordination, public relations, and marketing

- 2 years stakeholder engagement experience

Licensures and Certifications -

Preferred Requirements -

- Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing or related field; or comparable experience (equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis)

- 4 + years’ experience in social media coordination, public relations and marketing.

- 2 +-year ‘experience in public relations or work with a marketing agency

Work Environment:

Required physical, lifting, and sensory capabilities are requirements to perform the job successfully. Typical environmental conditions associated with job.

Lifting Requirements:

Light work : Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.

Work Schedule:

This position follows the City’s hybrid work schedule policy as assigned by the Department of Human Resources Commissioner and requires in-person work at City worksites/facilities at least four (4) days per week, with the option to work remotely one (1) day per week, based on eligibility, departmental needs, and supervisor approval. The hybrid work schedule is subject to change at any time to five (5) days in-person work.
