Job Title: Senior Buyer Job Description
The Senior Buyer oversees the full purchasing lifecycle for electronic and electromechanical parts, ensuring accurate requisitions, reliable suppliers, and timely deliveries in line with established policies and procedures. This role focuses on developing and managing sources of supply, coordinating closely with internal departments and vendors, and optimizing purchasing activities to achieve favorable pricing, dependable shipment, and consistent quality, particularly within the defense and RF commercial military industry.
Responsibilities
- Review and examine assigned purchase requisitions to verify accurate item descriptions, part numbers, specifications, and other required details before placing orders.
- Place purchase orders in accordance with established company policies, procedures, and quality standards.
- Identify, establish, and maintain sources of supply that provide reasonable pricing, dependable shipment schedules, and reliable product quality.
- Expedite, monitor, and administer open purchase orders to ensure on-time delivery and resolve any delays or discrepancies.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date files and records on all orders in process for tracking, auditing, and reporting purposes.
- Interview salespeople and vendors to evaluate products and services, and route descriptive literature and technical information to the appropriate departments.
- Maintain effective liaison and communication between all internal departments and external vendors to support maximum efficiency in the supply chain.
- Develop new sources of supply for both new and routine materials to strengthen the supplier base and mitigate risk.
- Coordinate and consolidate orders originating from different departments or projects to leverage quantity pricing and reduce overall costs.
- Collaborate closely with planners and other supply chain team members to align purchasing activities with production and inventory requirements.
- Prepare and review technical specifications and other technical purchasing documents to ensure clarity and accuracy for suppliers.
Essential Skills
- 45 years of experience in purchasing electronic and electromechanical parts within the defense industry, preferably in the RF commercial military sector.
- Experience in purchasing and procurement within a supply chain environment, including managing purchase orders and vendor relationships.
- Bachelors degree in a related field; an associate degree may be considered.
- Strong time management skills with a proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for evaluating suppliers, pricing, and order issues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with vendors, internal stakeholders, and preparing documentation.
- Experience writing technical specifications and other technical documents related to purchasing and materials.
- Proficiency with Costpoint and other ERP systems for managing purchase orders and supply chain data.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for documentation, reporting, and communication.

- Background in supply chain operations, including coordination with planning and production teams.
- Ability to build and maintain productive relationships with salespeople, vendors, and internal departments.
- Attention to detail in reviewing requisitions, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Ability to negotiate and consolidate orders to achieve favorable quantity pricing.
- Comfort working with technical information and descriptive literature for electronic and electromechanical components.
Work Environment
The Senior Buyer works within a collaborative purchasing and supply chain team that includes a group of three buyers and closely partners with approximately four planners. The environment emphasizes cross-functional communication with multiple departments and regular interaction with external vendors and sales representatives. Daily work involves using ERP systems such as Costpoint and standard Microsoft Office tools to manage purchase orders, track open orders, and maintain documentation. The role operates in a professional office setting with a focus on accuracy, efficiency, and teamwork in support of defense-related and RF commercial military projects.

This is a Permanent position based out of Melville, NY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $95000.00 - $130000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Pay Period: Weekly, Direct Deposit only
