The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Underwriter to join our Regional Liability team. The portfolio is a mix of complex risks spanning all liability lines, with a combination of corporate and commercial clients.

You will join a supportive, self-managing team that values sound judgement, collaboration and autonomy, with opportunity to coach and mentor junior colleagues.

Your new role

Using your technical expertise and commercial judgement, you will manage complex risks, strengthen broker partnerships and contribute to sustainable portfolio performance. As the portfolio is nationwide, the role includes occasional domestic travel to engage with brokers and customers. In this role, you will:

- Underwrite complex financial lines and liability risks and deliver timely decisions and solutions within delegated authority, organisational policies, underwriting standards, procedures and processes.
- Manage renewal and new business targets, working with internal and external stakeholders to support portfolio retention, profitable growth and profitability objectives.
- Build trusted relationships with brokers, customers and colleagues, sharing knowledge of QBE’s capabilities, risk appetite and products to develop effective solutions and strengthen outcomes.
- Monitor portfolio, broker, market and competitor activity, identifying emerging opportunities and risks.
- Contribute to product, process and continuous quality improvements.

About you

You are an experienced financial lines and liability underwriter who combines strong technical capability with commercial judgement. Collaborative and supportive, you are comfortable working independently, taking ownership of decisions and sharing your knowledge with others. You will bring:

- Strong financial lines and liability underwriting experience and in-depth knowledge of relevant legislation, best practice, organisational guidelines, underwriting standards, systems and products.
- Demonstrated success building profitable portfolios through pricing, risk selection, portfolio management and the effective use of actuarial and pricing tools.
- The confidence to assess complex risks, solve problems and make sound, timely decisions within delegated authority.
- Strong relationship-building, communication, negotiation and influencing skills, including experience partnering with senior insurance stakeholders and presenting to customers.
- Advanced analytical and research skills, with a strong understanding of the insurance market, emerging trends and the economic, legal and regulatory environment.
