Road & Rail Services is looking for dependable, safety-focused individuals to join our Mulberry, Florida team as a Railroad Switchman / Conductor . This is an active, hands-on position responsible for supporting the safe movement, switching, and placement of railcars throughout an industrial rail operation.
Previous railroad experience is helpful, but it is not required. We are willing to train candidates who demonstrate reliability, strong safety awareness, and the ability to learn railroad operating procedures.
If you have experience in construction, heavy equipment, manufacturing, agriculture, transportation, logistics, general labor, warehousing, or other outdoor industrial work , your skills may transfer well to this opportunity.
This is not a warehouse or climate-controlled position. You will spend your shift working around railcars, locomotives, tracks, and other industrial equipment in changing outdoor conditions.
What You'll Do
As a Switchman / Conductor, you will work as part of a rail crew to safely coordinate railcar movements. Your responsibilities may include:
Assist with switching, spotting, and positioning railcars throughout the facility
Operate manual track switches as required during switching movements
Communicate with locomotive operators and crew members using radios and approved hand signals
Couple and uncouple railcars during switching operations
Inspect tracks, switches, railcars, and surrounding areas for potential hazards
Help confirm that railcars are properly positioned before completing movements
Climb railcars and rail equipment as required to perform assigned duties
Walk significant distances throughout the rail yard, including across ballast and uneven surfaces
Remain alert to moving rail equipment, vehicles, coworkers, and changing conditions
Follow all company, customer, and railroad safety procedures
Immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or other operational concerns
Maintain required PPE and equipment throughout the workday
What You'll Need
We're looking for candidates who bring a strong work ethic and understand that safety and attendance are essential in railroad operations .
Qualified applicants should have:
Valid driver's license
Dependable transportation to and from the Mulberry facility
Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors
Strong attention to detail and situational awareness
Ability to follow detailed safety instructions and operating procedures
Willingness to learn railroad switching and conductor responsibilities
Ability to work effectively as part of a crew
Dependable attendance and punctuality
Ability to perform physically demanding work throughout the shift
Schedule & Work Environment
Railroad operations don't always follow a traditional Monday-through-Friday schedule. Candidates must be willing to work a rotating swing schedule based on operational requirements.
This may include:
Day and night shifts
Weekends
Holidays
Extended periods outdoors
Changing weather conditions, including Florida heat, rain, and humidity
Employees must be able to regularly walk, stand, climb, bend, and work on uneven surfaces while wearing required PPE.
