Certified Phlebotomy Technician II, Per Diem - Support Services

Along with the other Certified Phlebotomy Technicians in Support Services, triage all lab samples and requests after verification of appropriate information, following written protocols. Centrifuge, measure and aliquot and/or preserve as needed. Enter and verify patient and test info into computer. Generate computer labels for specimens and deliver to appropriate areas. Prepare samples for transport to referral labs or storage as needed. File department documents in alphabetical or numerical order. Prepare written reports to document phlebotomy draws, test results, test added, or deleted/rejected specimens as required. Prepare batch or outside lab referral specimens' documentation as needed. Maintain PM charts. Support transports of specimens and blood products throughout the health system. Perform phlebotomy on in- and outpatients following established principles and procedures. Operate laboratory equipment. Assist in training new employees. Perform inventory as needed. Transport specimens and blood product as needed. Cleans and prepares glassware and other supplies as needed. Support workflow through rotating bench assignments and adjusting schedule as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.

The following are required:

Candidate must have a California State CPT certificate

High School Diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED or HiSET)

Must have two years of recent phlebotomy experience OR one year of in-patient hospital phlebotomy experience

Knowledge of Clinical Lab test names and their abbreviated forms

Demonstrated working knowledge of medical terminology to include body functions and their systems

Knowledge of infection control procedures

Ability to understand complex technical information; and to apply, retains, and adds to that information which is subject to frequent changes

Ability to work rapidly and accurately with attention to detail

Ability to recognize the need to assist and to establish cooperative working relationship with Med Center staff

Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments

Skill in reading and writing English to understand technical protocols/procedures and to write brief accurate patient data

Skill in performing quality control. Skill in performing phlebotomy on all age groups

Skill in using computer terminal and printer

Experience with Beaker LIS/Care Connect/EPIC Information Systems preferred
