Job Description The Project Accountant is responsible for maintaining financial control over construction projects from award through closeout by managing job costing, owner and subcontractor billing, and compliance with contract terms. The role focuses on accurate, contract-driven billing, disciplined cost management, and strong collaboration with Project Managers while working in Trimble Viewpoint Vista and related systems across a diverse project portfolio. Responsibilities
- Set up new projects in Vista Job Cost, including entering budgets, cost codes, and phase structures aligned with approved project estimates.
- Review, code, and enter vendor invoices to the correct job, phase, and cost code in Vista Accounts Payable as needed.
- Monitor committed costs, budgeted costs, and actual costs against approved budgets, and promptly flag variances to Project Managers.
- Maintain accurate cost-to-complete projections in partnership with Project Managers to support proactive project financial management.
- Prepare and submit monthly owner billings using AIA G702/G703 or owner-specific formats through Vista Billing in accordance with contract terms.
- Coordinate financial review of contract terms, exhibits, and billing provisions with the Project Management team and customers to ensure accurate invoicing.
- Process customer payments via online banking and within Vista Accounts Receivable when required.
- Proactively follow up on outstanding receivables and support the Controller with collections on owner accounts.
- Coordinate with Project Teams on subcontract agreements, purchase orders, and change order documentation within Vista and Trimble Pay.
- Review subcontractor billings, retainage releases, and lien waiver collection through Trimble Pay to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Maintain organized, audit-ready project financial files from project initiation through closeout.
- Support month-end close activities, including Work-in-Progress (WIP) review and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition using Vista and Anterra.
- Assist with applications and renewals for contractor licensing to support ongoing business operations.
- Support annual financial statement audits and respond to financial data requests from surety and bonding companies.
- Serve as the primary accounting point of contact for assigned Project Managers, providing timely financial information and guidance.
- Support forecasting, cost projection, and cash flow projections for assigned projects to assist in financial planning.
- Recommend and help implement process improvements within Vista and other related software systems to enhance job costing accuracy and reporting efficiency.
- Perform other accounting duties as assigned to support the broader finance and accounting function.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
- At least 2 years of accounting experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience working with Vista (Trimble Viewpoint Vista) for job cost accounting, billing, and reporting.
- Solid understanding of construction job costing principles and practices.
- Familiarity with AIA billing formats, including G702 and G703.
- Ability to monitor and analyze project budgets, costs, and variances.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial data entry and reporting.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Project Managers and other stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills to maintain audit-ready project financial files.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Vista Viewpoint experience is preferred.
- Trimble Pay experience is a plus.
- Experience with Anterra for reporting and analytics is beneficial.
- Experience in a construction or project-based accounting environment.
- Ability to support Work-in-Progress (WIP) reviews and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
- Experience supporting financial statement audits and responding to surety or bonding company requests.
- Ability to identify and implement process improvements within accounting systems and workflows.
Work Environment This position primarily operates in a professional office environment, working Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The role routinely uses standard office equipment and accounting software, including Trimble Viewpoint Vista, Trimble Pay, Anterra, Microsoft Excel, and related applications. Work involves regular collaboration with Project Managers, the Controller, and project teams in a structured, process-driven setting focused on accurate financial reporting and project controls.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
