Senior Healthcare Integration Engineer (Remote Opportunity)

We are currently looking for a Senior Healthcare Integration Engineer for a 100% remote position supporting a large federal government healthcare modernization project. This role will develop and implement healthcare integration solutions across complex enterprise environments using MLLP gateways, Apache NiFi processing pipelines, Open Integration Engine adapters, and interfaces supporting EHR, claims, public health, and other healthcare data feeds. The engineer will work on advanced interoperability initiatives involving data mapping, transformation, routing, troubleshooting, and production support.

The role operates in a highly collaborative environment, partnering with architects, FHIR engineers, application developers, testers, onboarding teams, and external partners to deliver secure, reliable, scalable, and standards-compliant healthcare integrations.

The candidate must reside within the continental US.

Responsibilities

- Develop and implement healthcare integration solutions connecting applications, data sources, EHR systems, claims systems, public health systems, and external partners.
- Engineer and configure MLLP gateways, Apache NiFi processing pipelines, Open Integration Engine adapters, and healthcare interfaces supporting complex data feeds.
- Develop and support bidirectional Clinical Health Information Exchange and partner exchange integrations.
- Evaluate existing systems, interfaces, data flows, and integration requirements to design reliable, secure, and scalable interoperability solutions.
- Perform data mapping, transformation, routing, interface configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and production support while resolving complex interface and data-flow issues.
- Collaborate with architects, FHIR engineers, application developers, testers, onboarding teams, and external partners to ensure integrations meet functional, technical, security, and performance requirements.
- Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support team objectives and ensure the success of the project.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field and 10+ years of related professional experience.
- Extensive experience with healthcare interoperability, enterprise application integration, and healthcare interface development.
- Strong experience with HL7 v2, MLLP, healthcare interface engines, data transformation, and message routing.
- Experience with Apache NiFi, Open Integration Engine, EHR integration, and complex healthcare data flows.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex interface and data-flow issues.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work autonomously and provide technical leadership on complex integration initiatives.

Additional Qualifications

- Experience with Java, scripting, XML, JSON, SQL, APIs, and enterprise integration technologies.
- Experience integrating claims data, public health data, Clinical Health Information Exchange systems, and external healthcare partners.
- Experience with FHIR-based integrations and collaborating with FHIR engineering teams.
- Experience supporting federal healthcare programs or working with government healthcare organizations such as the Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Health and Human Services, or Defense Health Agency is preferred.

- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- All selected candidates must successfully complete a background check.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Government/Public Trust clearance, including required fingerprinting, when required for the position.
