Motor Controls Engineer, Vehicle Software

You will design and ship the motor controls behind current and future Tesla traction motors and vehicle actuator drives, spanning the entire fleet from Cybercab to Semi and Roadster. Join the team building the drive inverter controls behind Plaid acceleration, a rare-earth-free motor, and the most efficient EV on the road. Or work on actuators such as steer-by-wire and brake-by-wire that unlock autonomy and give Cybertruck the handling of a sports car in a full-size truck.

Define requirements for motor control software and interfacing hardware components including voltage and current sensors, power stages, and position sensors  Drive design of, and implement motor controller functionality, behaviors, and algorithms Develop, test, and validate motor control algorithms in the laboratory and in-vehicle  Influence R&D on future inverter/motor designs, advancing Tesla's IP in actuators, drives, and controls

Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent 2+ years of experience implementing controls in traction motor or other inverter-fed drives Strong fundamentals of AC electric motors and drive systems analysis, modeling, and control Solid background in linear systems analysis, stability, and controller design Basic proficiency with embedded firmware development in C/C++ Model development and data analysis in Matlab/Simulink Strong communication and preference for working in teams Knowledge of motor control algorithms: FOC, PWM schemes, sensorless/low-speed techniques System-oriented understanding of thermal, vehicle-level torque control, high-voltage DC-link integration, efficiency optimization, and firmware integration for electric drives

Expected Compensation $140,000 - $360,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
