What’s the role?

As an Information Security Consultant , you will help strengthen Westpac’s cyber threat detection and response capabilities by designing, building and maintaining detection content across SIEM, EDR/XDR and related security platforms. You will develop and tune detection rules, behavioural analytics and anomaly-based monitoring, using threat intelligence and frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK to improve visibility of emerging cyber threats and attack techniques.

Additionally, you'll design and implement security automation solutions, response workflows, integrations and playbooks that streamline investigation, containment and remediation activities. Working closely with Security Operations, Cyber Threat Intelligence, Incident Response and Red Teams, you'll continuously enhance detection coverage, operational efficiency and overall cyber resilience through monitoring, testing and continuous improvement initiatives.

You will provide technical leadership, maintain documentation, share knowledge and mentor junior team members while ensure security solutions are reliable, scalable and aligned with established engineering, development and governance practices.

What do I need?

- Experience working in financial services, banking, or any other large and complex enterprise environments, with hands-on experience in Cyber Security, Detection Engineering, Security Operations, Threat Hunting, or Security Automation.

- Strong experience with Splunk, Microsoft Defender XDR, or similar SIEM/EDR platforms, including creating and improving detection rules and security monitoring capabilities.

- Ability to write and tune detection logic using SPL, KQL, or similar query languages, with a good understanding of cyber threats and attacker behaviours.

- A software engineering mindset, with experience in Python or other scripting languages, automation, APIs, CI/CD pipelines, and workflow development.

- Solid understanding of security architecture, security controls, and modern technologies such as AI, machine learning, and automation within cyber security.

- Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with a curious mindset and a passion for investigating and solving complex security challenges.
