Steel Fabrication Quality Inspector – Richmond, VA
Location: Richmond, VA
Job Type: Contract-to-Hire
Shift: 1st Shift, Monday–Friday
Starting Pay: $31/hour — higher depending on experience
Overtime: Saturdays as needed
Position Summary
Seeking an experienced Quality Inspector for structural steel fabrication. This role focuses on checking fabricated steel throughout production, verifying dimensions and workmanship, and ensuring completed work meets drawings, specifications, and applicable quality standards.
Senior-level structural steel fitters or fabricators with strong inspection and quality experience may also be considered.
Responsibilities
- Inspect fabricated structural steel throughout daily production.
- Verify materials, dimensions, layout, and part placement against shop drawings and specifications .
- Conduct both in-process and final quality inspections .
- Identify, document, and follow up on nonconforming work in accordance with AWS D1.1/D1.5 requirements.
- Work directly with fabrication personnel to identify and correct quality issues.
- Support quality-control processes and continuous improvement efforts.
- Assist with preparation for and participation in annual AISC quality-control audits .
- Help maintain consistent quality standards throughout fabrication.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of structural steel layout and fabrication experience .
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication and construction drawings .
- Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication processes and quality standards.
- Understanding of welding and inspection requirements.
- AWS D1.1 and/or D1.5 welding certification preferred .
- Senior-level structural steel fitter/fabricator experience may be considered in place of direct QC experience.
