Job Description A New York-based architectural practice is seeking a Senior Architectural Designer or Project Architect to support multiple active residential and institutional projects. In this consulting role, you will work directly with the firms owner and lead project architects to advance projects from Design Development through final Construction Documents, ensuring design intent and technical accuracy across a range of building types including affordable multifamily housing, religious institutions, aging-in-place residential renovations, and ground-up luxury condominiums. Responsibilities

- Produce comprehensive architectural construction documents that clearly communicate design intent and technical requirements.
- Develop detailed interior and exterior architectural details for a variety of project types, including renovation and ground-up construction.
- Coordinate drawings and documentation with structural, MEP, and other consultants to ensure alignment across disciplines.
- Update and maintain Revit and AutoCAD models and drawing sets throughout the design development and construction documentation phases.
- Support the preparation of permit and bid documentation, including assembling complete drawing sets and specifications as needed.
- Assist with finish selections and FF&E documentation for residential and multifamily projects, ensuring consistency with the overall design vision.
- Contribute to design refinement across multiple concurrent projects, maintaining both aesthetic quality and technical accuracy.
- Work directly with firm leadership, including the owner and lead project architects, to meet project milestones and deliverables.
- Collaborate within a small design team to address project challenges, resolve coordination issues, and implement design decisions efficiently.
- Apply knowledge of construction sequencing and building systems to inform detailing, documentation, and coordination efforts.
- Support projects ranging from townhouse renovations and additions to large-scale multifamily developments up to approximately 125,000 square feet.

Essential Skills

- 815+ years of professional experience in architecture, with a focus on design development and construction documentation.
- Strong background in residential architecture, including townhouse renovations, additions, and aging-in-place design.
- Experience working on ground-up construction projects, preferably including multifamily housing and condominium developments.
- Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD for creating, updating, and coordinating architectural models and drawing sets.
- Demonstrated ability to produce complete, permit-ready and bid-ready construction document sets.
- Experience with interior fit-out and exterior detailing, including development of comprehensive detail drawings.
- Understanding of construction sequencing and building systems and how they impact design and documentation.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction while managing responsibilities across multiple active projects.
- Experience coordinating with consultants and integrating multidisciplinary input into cohesive architectural documents.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with firm leadership and a small design team.
- Experience working on projects ranging from approximately 4,000 to 125,000 square feet.
- Capability to support finish selections and FF&E documentation within residential and multifamily contexts.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Multifamily housing experience is preferred, particularly on affordable housing developments.
- Prior exposure to institutional and religious projects, such as church renovations, is beneficial.
- Experience with ground-up luxury condominium projects in urban environments is an advantage.
- Ability to contribute creatively and technically, bringing thoughtful design ideas and practical solutions to the studio.
- Comfort working on several projects simultaneously across residential, multifamily, institutional, renovation, and ground-up markets.

- Familiarity with rendering and presentation workflows is helpful for design refinement and client communication.

Work Environment This role is based in an architectural office environment located in New York City, within a collaborative studio setting. The consultant will work closely with the firms owner and a small design team, offering direct exposure to decision-makers and immediate impact on high-priority projects. The practice offers hybrid flexibility, with a preferred schedule of approximately four days onsite and one day remote after onboarding. The environment encourages both creative and technical contributions, provides exposure to multiple active projects across residential, multifamily, institutional, renovation, and ground-up construction markets, and offers the potential for assignment extension based on project workload.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $53.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
