About this role

About Xace

Xace is a global, multi-licensed finance infrastructure group, providing business accounts, international payments, cards, treasury, FX, safeguarding and financial technology to companies operating worldwide.

Originally built for the iGaming sector, the Xace Group works with more than 1,000 brands, including some of the industry's leading names.

Our technology arm delivers market-leading, module-based technology with hundreds of features, designed for multiple industries and used by other regulated fintechs.

The role

We are looking for a Compliance Specialist to join our growing Compliance team and play a hands-on role across financial crime compliance, customer due diligence and ongoing monitoring.

This is a role for someone with around three years' experience in financial crime, AML or compliance, ideally within payments, banking, e-money or another regulated financial services environment.

You will work closely with the MLRO and wider Compliance team across transaction monitoring, customer and business reviews, KYB refreshes, RFIs and complex financial crime investigations. You'll be expected not just to follow processes, but to understand the underlying risk, conduct proactive research and identify when something doesn't look right.

The role will suit an analytically minded compliance professional who is comfortable working with complex cases, interrogating information from multiple sources and making well-reasoned recommendations.

Experience with Sumsub or a similar KYC/KYB, screening or compliance platform is important. Direct experience of onboarding is useful, but not essential.

Key responsibilities

- Conduct detailed customer and business reviews across KYC, KYB, transaction monitoring, sanctions, PEP and adverse media risk.

- Investigate and disposition transaction monitoring alerts, identifying unusual or potentially suspicious activity and escalating where appropriate.

- Manage complex financial crime cases from initial alert or trigger through investigation, decision and closure.

- Support KYB refreshes and periodic reviews, assessing changes to ownership, management, business activity, jurisdictions, expected activity and overall risk.

- Manage and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) from banking, payment and other financial services partners, gathering and analysing relevant information and ensuring responses are accurate, complete and appropriately documented.

- Undertake proactive research into customers, businesses, counterparties, transactions, ownership structures and associated individuals where additional information is required.

- Use Sumsub to review customer information, screening results, transaction activity, cases and supporting documentation.

- Identify gaps, inconsistencies or unusual patterns across customer information and transactional activity and determine appropriate next steps.

- Perform enhanced due diligence on higher-risk customers and business relationships, escalating material concerns to the MLRO/DMLRO or relevant Compliance colleagues.

- Review customer activity against expected business models and risk profiles, identifying potential deviations or emerging risk.

- Support the investigation and escalation of potentially suspicious activity, including preparation of clear and well-evidenced case summaries for review.

- Maintain clear, accurate and auditable records of investigations, decisions, rationale and supporting evidence .

- Support ongoing monitoring and periodic reviews across the customer base, ensuring reviews are completed to the required standard and within agreed timescales.

- Assist with compliance testing, quality assurance, thematic reviews and remediation exercises.

- Support the Compliance team with regulatory, banking partner and internal information requests.

- Identify opportunities to improve compliance processes, workflows, controls and use of compliance technology.

- Work with the MLRO and wider business to ensure financial crime controls remain proportionate, effective and aligned with the risks faced by the business.

- Keep up to date with relevant financial crime risks, typologies, regulatory developments and emerging threats.

What you'll bring

- Approximately 3 years' experience in AML, financial crime, compliance or a related role within a regulated environment.

- Experience within payments, banking, e-money, fintech or another regulated financial services business.

- Hands-on experience of transaction monitoring, including investigating alerts and making risk-based decisions.

- Experience conducting KYB refreshes / periodic reviews and assessing complex corporate structures.

- Experience managing RFIs, ideally from banking or payment partners.

- Experience using Sumsub or a similar KYC, KYB, screening, transaction monitoring or case management platform.

- Strong investigative and analytical skills, with the ability to connect information from multiple sources and identify inconsistencies or unusual patterns.

- Experience managing complex cases where the answer is not immediately obvious and requires deeper investigation.

- Strong research skills and a proactive approach to finding and validating information rather than relying solely on information provided by customers.

- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to clearly document investigations, findings and recommendations.

- A good understanding of AML/CTF, sanctions, KYC/KYB and financial crime principles.

- Comfortable working with confidential and sensitive information and exercising appropriate judgement when handling risk.

- Strong attention to detail without losing sight of the wider customer and business risk picture.

A significant advantage

- Experience working with Sumsub specifically.

- Experience in a regulated payments or e-money institution.

- Previous experience with customer onboarding and initial KYC/KYB assessments.

- Experience with iGaming or other higher-risk industries and associated financial crime typologies.

- Experience with sanctions and adverse media investigations.

- Experience handling complex corporate structures, trusts, holding companies or multi-jurisdictional ownership.

- ICA, ACAMS or another relevant AML/financial crime qualification, or active progress towards one.

- Experience working with banking or payment partners on compliance reviews and remediation.

What we're looking for in you

Analytical: You enjoy getting into the detail, joining the dots and understanding what the information actually tells you.

Investigative: You don't stop at the first answer. When something doesn't make sense, you know how to dig deeper, conduct targeted research and establish the facts.

Proactive: You identify emerging issues, inconsistencies and potential risks rather than waiting for them to be escalated to you.

Commercially aware: You understand that good compliance means making informed, risk-based decisions while understanding the underlying customer and business context.

High ownership: You take responsibility for your cases, your decisions and the quality of your work.

Detail-oriented: You can manage complex cases and large amounts of information while maintaining accurate records and a clear audit trail.

Curious: You want to understand how customers operate, how transactions flow and why activity may look different from what was expected.

What we offer

- Competitive salary + bonus

- The opportunity to work across a fast-growing, multi-licensed payments and financial infrastructure group

- Hands-on exposure to complex financial crime cases and international payments

- Direct exposure to senior Compliance leadership and the MLRO

- The opportunity to develop expertise across AML, KYC/KYB, transaction monitoring and broader financial crime compliance

- Career development opportunities across the wider Xace Group
