Job Title: Environmental, Health & Safety Manager
Job Summary:
Reporting to the General Manager, the Environmental, Health & Safety Manager provides strategic and hands-on leadership for all environmental, health, and safety activities at the facility. This role is responsible for building a proactive safety culture, maintaining compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, North Carolina Department of Labor, North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, NFPA, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and company requirements, and partnering with operations to identify risk, prevent injuries, protect the environment, and continuously improve EHS performance. The EHS Manager serves as the site subject-matter expert for regulatory compliance, risk reduction, incident prevention, environmental stewardship, emergency preparedness, employee engagement, and EHS management-system performance.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve site EHS policies, programs, procedures, training, audits, and communication processes.
- Monitor, interpret, and apply applicable OSHA, EPA, NC DOL, NC DEQ, NFPA, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and local regulatory requirements to ensure site-level compliance.
- Lead the facility EHS management system, including annual objectives, risk assessments, legal compliance reviews, management review inputs, corrective actions, and performance reporting.
- Conduct workplace inspections, job hazard analyses, ergonomic assessments, environmental aspect reviews, machine safety reviews, contractor safety reviews, and layered process audits to identify and control risk.
- Lead incident, near miss, environmental event, and high-potential event investigations using structured root cause analysis; ensure timely corrective and preventive actions are completed and verified for effectiveness.
- Maintain required EHS records, permits, reports, training evidence, OSHA logs, environmental compliance records, waste documentation, SDS records, and regulatory submissions.
- Partner with operations, maintenance, engineering, human resources, quality, supervisors, and senior leadership to integrate EHS requirements into daily work, new equipment launches, process changes, and continuous improvement activities.
- Oversee emergency preparedness, spill response, fire prevention, contractor safety, hazardous materials management, waste management, environmental permitting, industrial hygiene, and occupational health programs as applicable.
- Develop, track, and communicate leading and lagging EHS metrics, including injury trends, audit findings, corrective action closure, environmental performance, training completion, and employee engagement indicators.
- Lead safety committees, employee involvement activities, toolbox talks, campaigns, and communication efforts that reinforce safe work practices, stop-work authority, accountability, and positive safety culture.
- Support workers’ compensation, return-to-work, medical case management, injury prevention, and fitness-for-duty processes in partnership with Human Resources.
- Support corporate EHS initiatives, internal and external audits, customer requirements, sustainability activities, and business continuity planning as required.
Academic Requirements
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related technical field; an equivalent combination of education, training, and directly relevant EHS leadership experience may be considered.
- Required: Demonstrated working knowledge of OSHA general industry requirements, environmental compliance, incident investigation, risk assessment, emergency response, hazardous waste, lockout/tagout, machine guarding, powered industrial trucks, hot work, confined space, and hazard communication.
- Preferred: Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Certified Hazardous Materials Practitioner (CHMP), or similar recognized EHS credential.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive EHS experience in a manufacturing, industrial, automotive, foundry, machining, die casting, or similar high-risk production environment; prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Lead Auditor or Auditor Certified for ISO 14001/45001
- Understanding of Regulatory requirements as they concern to Linamar Light Metal
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. EHS regulations, including OSHA general industry standards, environmental permitting, recordkeeping, hazardous materials, waste management, emergency response, stormwater, wastewater, air permitting, Tier II, TRI, SPCC, and RCRA requirements as applicable.
- Demonstrated ability to lead EHS programs in a hands-on manufacturing environment and influence safe behavior across all levels of the organization.
- Strong leadership, communication, coaching, facilitation, and influencing skills with the ability to build trust with employees, supervisors, contractors, and senior leaders.
- Ability to conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses, incident investigations, audits, training, and corrective action follow-up with a practical, sustainable approach.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, organizational, and documentation skills, including the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and present actionable recommendations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, audits, compliance activities, and improvement projects in a fast-paced production environment.
- High attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation, regulatory reporting, training records, and management-system evidence.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with EHS management systems, document control systems, learning management systems.
- Demonstrated commitment to employee engagement, stop-work authority, continuous improvement, environmental stewardship, and prevention-based safety culture.
Working Conditions
- Manufacturing production environment with regular presence on the plant floor, including exposure to moving equipment, mobile equipment, noise, heat, chemicals, molten metal processes, and other industrial hazards.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment and comply with all site safety rules.
- May require occasional off-shift support, urgent response, regulatory support, incident response, or participation in emergency preparedness activities.
- Some travel may be required for training, audits, corporate meetings, or regulatory/compliance support.

- Ensure compliance with all applicable legislative and regulatory requirements for the facility’s geographic location, including but not limited to OSHA, EPA, NC DOL, NC DEQ, NFPA, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and customer-specific requirements where applicable.
